Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jermaine Rucker. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Jermaine, thanks for joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
The story behind my mission is quite a story thats alot to type. To sum up ive always had an average life I had clothes and shoes growing up, well fed, parents here I just didnt have most of what i wanted as far as the clothes i wouldve wanted. I was also homeless at one point for about 3 months which really gave me the drive to never end up in that situation again! Im an independent person, love fashion, and nice things so with my brands I know ill be able to achieve financial freedom and build a legacy and empire for my family. Goal is to build generational wealth bein the first millionaire in my family.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Jermaine, “Maine,” and I grew up on the west side of Detroit, Michigan. I’ve been an athlete my whole life. Played basketball & football my whole life. I recently just graduated high school from Detroit Henry Ford High School. I’ve always liked being on my own and doing things on my own. My brothers and I knew early that we were going to be entrepreneurs. My older brother Donovan came up with a plan earlier in life when I was in 3rd grade to start a clothing brand, but we never fell through with it. Fast forward to now, I graduated school knowing I don’t like working jobs. With the rapid growth of TikTok and social media during the pandemic and up, I came across an influencer by the name of, “Isaiahoutsider.” Isaiah is a 7 figure clothing brand owner who I came across when brainstorming what route I was going to take while pursuing the entrepreneurship route. I really fell victim to Zay’s aesthetic, style, outfits, and clothing designs. I also own a moving company across metro Detroit by the name of 60BuckZTruckZ which offers point a to point b moving, junk removal, in house furniture moving, & an extra vehicle for a customer to load in themselves if needed. MY clothing brand is growing pretty fast and I’m more than excited to share more with you guys as some local artists have purchased from me and gaining notoriety. Im unique people often refer to me as wavy or smooth. Im also just a funny and outgoing guy i leave a mark on everyone i meet. I’m the most proud of how my brands notoriety is growing as well as how we’ve expanded to a second truck within 60uckZTruckZ.
How’d you meet your business partner?
I met Rylan, @rylangfx on instagram, through my artist big brother LoTickets. Rylan is my partner in where he’s my second half of my brain when it comes to brainstorming for ideas and designs for pieces. He’s the main graphic designer as of right now. Rylan also does gfx for Tee Grizzley where he has done art for Tee’s G77 gaming channel, Some of Tee’s cover art, Cover art for Tee’s artist HorseTheOne, That white album cover on Horsetheone’s upcoming “The Hood Hope” planned to be dropped sometime in March was done by Rylan. Ry is the hardest! He has countless and other credits thats too many for me to name all here. Rylan has done all the graphics for all of my drops, my boy wicked!
for any gfx inquiries he can be contacted [email protected]
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
I’ve just been in everyone’s face across all my socials. I often get my supporters and following involved since they are who are consuming my product. I keep them updated with mockups and just let them see behind scenes and designing work. Then i promote my upcoming drops weeks even months before hand to build up the anticipation. For my first few drops I kept them limited dropping 10 pieces each drop to secure and prevent revenue loss and to build scarcity and a demand for my pieces. Now everyone is tapping in and my dm’s were FLOODED when i dropped my Black MOtion Crew 4 Ransom Note hoodie since i only dropped 7. The response i got was unexpected now i made the conscious decision to noe buy 40 pieces to drop and release given that im being contacted more and more for my pieces and im good at the mouth selling in person. Risk and Reward.
