Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jerica Steward. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jerica, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you wish you had started sooner?
I wish I would’ve started my creative career sooner because I have truly enjoyed this experience. I’ve always had an interest in fashion and styling as a curvy woman. Sometimes it’s not always easy to find chic clothing in my size, but that made me want to find out where I could purchase that clothing. Once I began sharing my outfits, I noticed that there were many other women wanting to see fashion content from women in different sizes.
Now, I’m contributing to a diverse range of content and allowing other women to discover their love for fashion regardless of their size. By allowing myself to open up to others, I’ve also created a community of people who appreciate my content and possibly view fashion in a new perspective.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I started creating content almost two years ago. Because I didn’t see a lot of women who looked like me creating the content I wanted to see, I decided to do it myself for other women who may feel the same. My content focuses on fashion, lifestyle and beauty. They’re all things I love and care about and think that women of all sizes should have access to.
I’m most of proud of my work ethic. I know the things I want in life and the effort it takes to get there. I’m not afraid to work hard for the life I want and deserve and always encourage others to do the same. I hope that my community understands that it’s okay to be imperfect. You’ll never have it 100% right, but the step you take forward is better than the one that you never take. I hope they see my content and persistence as an example that they too can achieve their goals.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Other content creators are a great resource. I obviously do not encourage anyone to duplicate someone’s work, but I don’t see anything wrong with being inspired by others. It’s important to know the difference. Also, there is nothing wrong with just asking people about their process. They can either share or not. I have people ask me about my process all the time, and I don’t mind helping.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I want to help other women who may not know where to start with their wardrobe. I want to help them feel confident and empowered. I would also like to pursue content creation full time at some point.
