Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jerica Lovings. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jerica, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you wish you had started sooner?
If I could go back in time, I would’ve definitely started my creative career as a music artist sooner. Only because, I’d have more knowledge and experience in the music industry. I started my music career in 2020, during the pandemic. With the whole world on lock down, my creative juices started flowing, and I started writing raps. It started off as a hobby and turned into a career for me. If I started sooner, I’d probably be further in my music career. Honestly, I wouldn’t change a thing about my experience because I am where I’m suppose to be in life. I’m just happy that I started when I did because I never would’ve dreamt of ever being a music artist. The only timing I’m on is God’s. What’s for me is mine, Period.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a rapper and performer by the name of Big Mami Jeri. I came up with my name from listening to the Notorious BIG’s hit Song “Big Poppa”, and it’s been up ever since. I debuted my talent at showcase I signed up for called Young Bulls in Charge. Huge shout out to Big Lou for putting that event together for all the new and upcoming artists. This showcase was a competition for the Best Opening Performance, and the winner gets several prizes such as a free studio session and photoshoot. I ended up winning 1st place, and this was my first performance as an new artist. This was a very proud moment for me because I put so much work and effort in to making my performance perfect. It was only the beginning. Since then, I have only gotten better at my craft. I still have a long way to go, but I am proud of where I am with my journey. Consistency is key.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is that I get to express myself through music. Whether, I’m happy, sad, or mad I just write my thoughts into lyrics and create music. It’s very therapeutic and fun to see my creation come to life. I hope to never lose the fun in it. Just seeing the reaction I get from my supporters fills my heart with joy. I love everything about making music. It’s like watching a small seed blossom into a beautiful flower. Like the great Erykah Badu said, “I’m an artist and I’m sensitive about my $#!t”. My music journey will continue to prosper, I believe in GOD.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to take my music career as far as I can. Network and meet other artists to Collab on music with. I would love for it to be my lifestyle one day, so I can take care of my family. Overall, my mission is to be happy doing what I love! I don’t ever want to lose sight on my happiness.
