We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jerica Jackson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jerica, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
I came up with the idea during the building phases of my family’s ranch. I was sitting with a friend as she said “Maybe you should open it up to the public” I responded ” You know I do not like a lot of people around my animals” she said to just try it. The very next day a lady called my out of the blue asking if I could help her refresh herself riding horses again. I took on the task and enjoyed it. I went home and I prayed ” Lord, if you want me to teach people how to ride horses and be great horse owners, just make it clear for me” A couple weeks later a few more people called after I posted a video. A week after that I said ” Ok, Lord if you say so” Heart of Her Riding Ranch was birthed and I begin showing the world and all the visitors to Houston a ” True Texan Experience” . I begin offering a family feel approach to horseback riding, when you come out to the ranch I want you to feel like you are at your family’s ranch creating memories that will last a lifetime.

Jerica, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hi, my name is Jerica and I create memories that last a lifetime at Heart of Her Riding Ranch, in Houston, TX. I started this business about 4 years ago to give visitors a true taste of Texas. We own and operate a horseback riding facility just outside the loop. Here, at the ranch we can cater to all your needs whether you’re in town for a girls trip or just want to come out on a date night we host it all. We offer leisure riding as well as lessons and for our little cowpokes we offer a 2 day camp monthly. We are minority owned, queer owned, and right in the city.

How did you build your audience on social media?
Ahhhhh, social media honestly it starts off kind of scary because you’re like on, no body’s watching my videos or nobody’s checking the pages and then literally overnight your platforms are blowing up. For me it was TikTok, that’s been where the majority of my clientele has found me on that platform. It happened overnight as well I just kept hash tagging and kept posting and I still post and then one day the views on a few videos took off and the phone hasn’t stopped ringing since. So, I try to maintain my goal of at least one to two new videos a month if not more.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
The family atmosphere when you come out to the ranch. We are really big on southern hospitality and when out of towners and locals come to visit we make them feel right at home. We don’t want you to think of Heart of Her Riding Ranch as a business but as a piece of your family. Most of us grew up going to the oil ranch or our relatives owned farms or livestock here at this ranch we make it feel like you are apart of our family because 10/10 times, my family will be out there assisting with the day. So when read the reviews and post from people visiting they are all saying ” It feels just like being around family”
