We recently connected with Jeri Newton and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Jeri thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
The most meaningful project I’ve worked on is actually being made currently (Thank you…Goodbye) . I feel this is my most honest work to date. Just showing the world who I am. Certain traumas & vices I’ve been through that I’m sure people in world can feel & relate to. Walking them through how coped with troubling times from my mother passing to depression. This project is me & im excited to share it with world. I would say its really about redemption for self. Self watering, growth, love, & financial freedom some of the other topics at work with this project. I just want my supporters & fans to know there’s nothing you can’t come back from & hold your head high.
Jeri , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Jeri Newton, I am a artist/song writer. I actually got into the music industry while I was in college for film studies. What sets me apart from others I believe is my versatility. Everything I create comes from within & is authentic. The honesty behind my craft is a lost art I believe in the music industry. Ofcourse if you ask me I believe my lyrical ability is top tier. What I’m most proud of so far in my career are the heights I’ve reached, especially this year. Ive reached a lot of my goals I set out for myself, from article in The Source Magazine to making B.E.T for a music video I’ve been featured on. I honestly believe anything is possible at this point in my life. Ive recently started my own record label (Sonday Records) for artists and creatives like myself. So I want to say expect a lot of great sounds & music from us in these next few years!
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Yes I can, I feel possibly the best word to describe me is resilience! Through the past year or 2 my Ive gone through the toughest times of my life. There’s a couple moments that really shaped me into the person I am today. I would say the most impactful on my life was my mother’s death. When I lost her I honestly felt broken to the point where I wasn’t sure I wanted to do music anymore. I had to ask myself the question was I doing it for her or myself. I knew deep down she would’ve wanted me to keep pushing and see my dreams through whether she was still with us or not. On top of grieving I found myself having to relocate from a place where I built my brand and audience. I guess you can say I was starting from square 1 again but I had to train my mind to consider it a fresh start. I found myself moving with no baggage, clear mind, & placed myself in a loving environment. To this day its really bringing the best out of me!
: Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Aww man I have so many but there’s this one I cannot get out of my head. Im shooting for a grammy. At times I envision myself on stage with my loved ones giving this inspiring speech about my journey. The trials & lost I’ve endured hoping to inspire the next best songwriter. I think of myself as the greatest story ever told & I’m going to see it through! Yea that’s the one that keeps me going!
