Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jeremy Williams. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Jeremy thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
Learning the craft has always been a very strenuous process for me. I’ve always had aspirations to be the best in my field and leave a legacy. Growing up in Whitehaven, a predominately black community in Memphis, showed me that one wrong decision could alter your reality so it was very important to be socially conscious of your environment and where you place your energy. When I learned how to DJ and how to make clothes I had to separate myself from people that were like minded so I could focus on retaining the material. Learning the craft is so important because it shows you your weaknesses but it also gives you an opportunity to strengthen them before you use them again!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I began my entreprenurial life around the age of 14. My Father, Joseph Williams, owned several businesses and was well versed on the economics of business. I began learning how to make clothes by helping him with orders after school and sometimes even holding competitions between each other of who was the fastest. Eventually, the idea of having a clothing business of my own came about in 2017 when I went to college and got around business minded individuals that pushed me to do so. What helps sets my clothing brand apart is that every design and idea is hand made. We focus on putting dynamic & motivational extracts on quality garments to give our items meaning, purpose, and originality. I translate this same originality to my DJ services which I began legitimately in 2018. I offer sounds from R&B, Hip-Hop, AfroBeats, EDM and Gospel. I started Dj’ing in high school when I joined the sound crew and controlled the music for some of the functions. I then grew to start dj’ing events for my classmates and relatives but then got side lined when I got an offer to play college football . In 2018, I retired from the game of football and start dj’ing at multiple clubs around the greater Memphis area. I am proud to say that DJ’ing has allowed me to be a full time entrepreneur. Anybody that works with me wether its with clothing or DJ’ing I would like them to know that I provide a quality experience. I pride myself on professionalism and timeliness!

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
I think society can better support artist by gaining more perspective before commenting on on a creatives work. Social media has connected people from all walks of life and most of the time when artist first present there work its in their learning curve process. Being judgmental or speaking too soon often discourages artist to continue or encourages them to procrastinate. In Addition, because social media is such a powerful tool, if you have artist and creatives you like it is important to share, comment, and like their work often. Go out in your town and don’t just go to clubs or lounges but go to networking events and creative spaces to meet new people. COVID made people more reserve which isn’t necessarily a bad thing personally, but for an entrepreneur it is vital to network.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Learning, thinking, and doing things yourself. Make no mistakes, it is a blessing to have a community and resources around you, but having something of your own and calling it your own is a wonderful feeling. Seeing other people you don’t know wear your clothes and love wearing it is amazing.
