We were lucky to catch up with Jeremy Wayne Dean recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jeremy Wayne, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
I think that I am currently undertaking the most meaningful potential project on my path.
By project, I mean this part of my life. I recently moved into a new home in Flowery Branch. Coincidentally at a place called Folksong Apartments. I’m one of two community directors here and get to explore an entirely new way to exist in the world around me. I get to create comfortably, help coordinate community building activities, and connect with other creatives in the Atlanta area I otherwise wouldn’t have been in contact with.
Jeremy Wayne, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’ve been a musician in the Atlanta area now for about 11 years. I got into the world of music and gigging through my own songs. I used to enter myself into local songwriters contests and showcases, and one of them turned up an opportunity to play a cover gig. I’ve pretty much done that since then.
I’ve grown a lot as a performer, a writer, and a person over the years by being involved in the music scene here. I would say that my gigs have turned into a combination of original works, covers, story telling and joke sharing.
I’m not particularly sure what sets me apart but I’d have to assume it’s a combination of those four things. I definitely enjoy sharing myself with others and vice versa. I like to get the crowd involved however I can and I think that people enjoy the variety of entertainment that I’m attempting to provide. It’s not just music. It’s not just songs. It’s a little bit of everything I think everyone needs a little bit of to experience an artist and their personality and perspective.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding part has to the the sense of freedom I’ve established within myself. I think being able to create consciously really connects me to my current situations. I’m not confined to the constructs of others belief systems, expectations or desires. I simply get to sit with my self and sift through stuff that makes me feel good. Makes me feel like my self.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
I think engaging with people attempting to express themselves on digital and physical level helps us out tremendously. With the age of social media being upon us, having a following that checks in, provides feedback and encourages creatives to create consciously helps us all find connections in the physical world we not have been comfortable to connect with otherwise
