We were lucky to catch up with Jeremy Townsend recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jeremy, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s talk about social media – do you manage your own or do you have someone or a company that handles it for you? Why did you make the choice you did?
I personally manage my own social media accounts for my business, and I’d be happy to share my reasoning and insights on this matter.
I decided to manage my own social media for a few reasons:
1. Authenticity: I believe that my authentic voice is crucial in connecting with my audience. When I post on social media, it directly reflects my thoughts, values, and personality, which helps build a genuine connection with my followers.
2. Cost-effectiveness: As a small business owner, I needed to allocate my resources carefully. Hiring a social media manager or a team can be expensive, especially when just starting. By managing it myself, I could invest those funds into other areas of my business.
3. Learning opportunity: I saw social media management as an opportunity to learn and understand the dynamics of online marketing better. The ever-evolving landscape of social media platforms provides valuable insights into customer behavior and trends.
4. Flexibility and control: Managing my social media allowed me to have complete control over the content, scheduling, and engagement strategies. I could quickly adapt to changes or trends without the need for approvals or coordination.
The results so far have been promising:
1. Engagement and growth: I’ve seen a steady increase in my follower count and engagement rates. By consistently posting relevant content and interacting with my audience, I’ve managed to build a loyal community around my brand.
2. Cost savings: Managing my social media has saved me a significant amount of money compared to hiring a professional. This has allowed me to invest more in product development and other critical areas of my business.
3. Learning curve: While there was a learning curve involved, I now have a better understanding of what works and what doesn’t on different platforms. This knowledge has been invaluable in refining my social media strategy.
4. Authenticity and trust: By being the face of my brand on social media, I’ve been able to establish trust and credibility with my audience. They know that they’re interacting with the person behind the business, which has led to stronger connections and customer loyalty.
For other business owners considering whether to manage their own social media or hire a team, here are some insights:
1. **Understand your strengths:** If you enjoy creating content, engaging with your audience, and having the time to commit to it, managing your social media might be a good choice.
2. **Consistency is key:** Regardless of who manages your social media, consistency in posting and engagement is crucial for building a following and maintaining a strong online presence.
3. **Know when to seek help:** If managing social media becomes overwhelming or takes time away from other essential aspects of your business, consider outsourcing or hiring help.
4. **Stay authentic:** Whether you manage it yourself or hire someone, ensure that your brand’s authentic voice and values shine through in your social media presence. Authenticity fosters trust with your audience.
In the end, the decision to manage your own social media or hire someone else depends on your unique circumstances, resources, and goals for your business. It’s essential to weigh the pros and cons and choose the approach that aligns best with your vision and capabilities.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Golftics is a remarkable venture that took root during the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic. We are based in sunny San Diego, CA, and our team comprises two charismatic individuals: Actor/Comedian Wesley Dwaine and Pro Skater Jeremy Townsend, representing Seattle, WA. Together, we’ve embarked on an exciting journey that has resulted in a new show currently airing on the Rideplay TV network. www.rideplay.tv
For those unfamiliar with Rideplay, it’s a platform that supplies and streams original content directly to the backseat screens of Uber and Lyft vehicles nationwide. Golftics, along with a diverse array of short-format content, enjoys an incredible reach, averaging a staggering 6.8 million impressions every month.
Now, let’s dive into the heart of Golftics. Our core mission is to transform the golf course into a vibrant and visually captivating backdrop for celebrity interviews. We bring together an eclectic mix of guests, ranging from sports icons to beloved actors, news anchors to musicians, and everything in between. What sets us apart is that these interviews unfold in a fun and relaxed atmosphere, as Wes and Jeremy team up with our celebrity guests for a round of golf. It’s an opportunity to witness a different side of these remarkable personalities, all while they engage in friendly competition to support their chosen charity.
We have ambitious plans for the future, envisioning two celebrities teaming up for a 2-on-2 tournament, involving all the aforementioned. The winning team would have the privilege of directing a charity donation to the charity of their choice, an exciting prospect for a great cause.
In addition to our celebrity interviews, we also specialize in creating “spotlight” videos for golf courses. These visually stunning short videos serve to highlight the unique charm and features of golf courses. This content enjoys exposure through Rideplay.tv airtime and across all Golftics social media platforms, ensuring greater visibility and awareness for the courses we feature.
At Golftics, we’re not just content creators; we’re also passionate about giving back to the community. We actively participate in charity events, providing coverage, and sometimes even taking part in the action. Through our content, we integrate scannable QR codes to facilitate donations, benefiting the hosts, charities, and courses involved.
If you’re curious about where we’ll be next or interested in collaborating with Golftics, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us. We’re always eager to explore new opportunities and connect with individuals and organizations who share our passion for golf, entertainment, and making a positive impact.
In summary, Golftics is a blend of entertainment, sports, and philanthropy, all set against the picturesque backdrop of the golf course. We take immense pride in what we’ve achieved thus far and look forward to sharing more exciting content with our clients, followers, and fans. Thank you for taking the time to get to know us!
How’d you meet your business partner?
The story of how I met my co-host, Wes, is a tale of adventure and camaraderie that began in 2004. I was brought into this remarkable journey when Wes and his partner at New Life Records (Scott Atall aka. Mr. Bilistic) hired me for a unique assignment: to document a Midwest tour featuring artists like Mr. Bilistic and 3am.
This tour turned out to be a 10-day odyssey, with our main stops in Wichita and Lawrence, Kansas, as well as Casper, Wyoming. It was a whirlwind experience that left a lasting impact on all of us.
One interesting aspect of this journey was the fact that many of the artists on the tour used aliases, and it didn’t take long for them to playfully christen me with a moniker of my own – “White Spike.”
The tour itself was a blend of adventure and misadventures. We covered vast distances, spending countless hours on the road. Along the way, I endured countless freestyle rap sessions, which demonstrated creative energies and love for music but also kept me wishing for some silence.
Of course, no road trip is complete without a few bumps in the road, and this one was no exception. I had the memorable experience of my first hangover, a rite of passage that often accompanies adventures like these. We also had our fair share of mishaps, including lost luggage, which tested our problem-solving skills and ability to adapt.
Late-night wrestling matches became a form of entertainment and bonding for us, adding a playful and competitive element to our journey. We poked fun at each other, engaging in friendly banter and teasing that only deepened our connections.
What none of us realized at the time was that this whirlwind tour was unknowingly laying the foundation for lasting relationships and future collaborations. Our shared experiences, mutual respect, and genuine friendships that formed during those 10 days would ultimately lead us to new creative ventures, including the creation of Golftics.
From being “White Spike” on the road to co-founding a successful venture, this story exemplifies how unexpected connections and shared adventures can lead to lifelong partnerships. I’m immensely grateful for the memories and bonds that were forged during that unforgettable journey in 2004, and I look forward to many more adventures with Wes and our team in the years to come.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source of new clients for us has undoubtedly been the opportunity to feature diverse and influential guests on Golftics. Our show provides us with a unique platform to connect with celebrities, athletes, and talented individuals from various fields. With each new guest we feature, we not only have the chance to get to know them but also to create meaningful friendships and expand our network.
As a professional skater, I’ve had the privilege of being exposed to different celebrities and talents throughout my career. This exposure has opened doors to exciting collaborations and connections within the entertainment and sports industries. Similarly, Wes’s diverse entrepreneurial background has put him in situations where he’s had the chance to interact with celebrities and influencers, often at events covered by Rideplay.tv.
These interactions and relationships have proven to be invaluable for us in terms of attracting new clients and partners. When we feature these prominent figures on Golftics, it not only showcases our ability to connect with high-profile individuals but also highlights our unique and engaging interview format set on the golf course. This exposure has attracted a steady stream of clients and fans who appreciate our fresh and entertaining approach.
In essence, Golftics serves as both a platform for showcasing the personalities of our guests and a vehicle for expanding our network, ultimately bringing in new clients who resonate with our brand and the stories we share. We believe that every guest we feature adds to the rich tapestry of our show and contributes to the growth and success of Golftics.
