We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jeremy Temple a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jeremy, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
Our mission is simple, and the driving force behind what we’ve built with CEMENT6. We started this in order to have a positive impact wherever we reached. It began with a focus in environmental sustainability by finding discarded pieces of cement and feed bags that we could use to create something new. Now we directly work and design items with several women and men in Cambodia that have become friends instead of just a piece of a supply chain for a faceless company. We are able to provide living wages for everyone that we work with. We are also fortunate enough to work within the communities to provide support for a school and a transitional home for children and teens. Our work will always have altruistic responsibility attached to it and hopefully we can serve as an example to others that have plans to help while they create as well.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
We are a business that operates for the greater good. CEMENT6 ‘s purpose is to give back while creating a sustainable and ethical supply chain. We upcycle discarded cement and feed bags to create one of a kind packs and wallets that last a lifetime now. Susannah and I started CEMENT6 in order to create something in a positive way, something that benefitted the community, something that was genuinely good, and we are very proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish. Since 2016 we’ve been able to donate thousands of backpacks, sponsor food drives at community schools, build fruit and vegetable gardens for a transitional home, provide teacher salaries, help students with college, and many other endeavors.
We are based out of Nashville but travel anywhere from Chicago to Tampa to vend at markets and music festivals. For us, it’s the best way to get our product and story out there. When we’re not working events, we spend roughly three months a year in Cambodia with our son, designing new items, teaching English, and trying to help anywhere we can.

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
We met in December of 2012 building a house together in Haiti and became friends. We are both veterans and were with a group of peers from our university. Beginning a friendship in an environment like that forges strong bonds and showed us that we can work, and travel, well together.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Markets and festivals, or anything face to face, is the best opportunity for us to gain new clientele.
