Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jeremy Parker. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jeremy, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I’ve always enjoyed music and feel like I listened to it endlessly in my youth. Graduating from playing tapes on my Walkman, to putting CD’s in my stereo, to ultimately adding it all to my first iPod, music always played a huge role in my day to day life. The process of going to record stores and looking for new bands you’d never heard of or that had been recommended was the norm. Back then, I always hoped I could one day interview musicians and other creatives as well as share my musical tastes with others. I was a big fan of making mix tapes or burned CD’s as a kid, so sharing my collection now on social media seems somewhat natural. All those things combined certainly pushed me in the direction I ended up in.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I created a podcast called Sensory Deprivation where I interview all sorts of creatives about their lives and ways they’ve overcome struggles in their lives. Part of the show is having my guests share a piece of their art that they closely connect to, which led me to share my own version of that concept, my vintage HiFi stereo and music collection. I initially began gaining a following from my podcast, which then morphed into me posting and live-streaming on TikTok and Instagram, which is where most of my followers now learn about me. It’s been really cool to build a community that people connect to and enjoy. I never thought sharing something that has always been so meaningful to me would resonate with others the way it has.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I began posting my podcast clips on Instagram, which then led to TikTok. After a while, I began sharing my record and HiFi collection as well which is when things started to take off more. The key is consistency, posting daily on Instagram, TikTok and Youtube, as well as sharing stories whenever possible. All of these things will help you get exposed to an audience that appreciates your content. Also, reaching out to other creators and media pages will help spread the word as you grow.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
In the beginning of my podcast Sensory Deprivation, I booked guests simply by reaching out to the people I was interested in by directly messaging them on Instagram. At first this went nowhere, but I kept at it and eventually it paid off. I was able to put together my first series of guests, which allowed me to reach out to sponsors who I shared my guest list with. This led to sponsorships for recording equipment from Shure and all other sorts of sponsorships that assisted in the podcast getting off the ground before I even had recorded an episode. The key is to just commit to it, know that there will be difficulties and push through them.
