We recently connected with Jeremy Myers and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Jeremy thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
More or less 27 years of trial and error, with a do-it-yourself and never give up attitude. I’m fortunate to be in a scene that’s very open and supportive. There’s been countless people that have steered me in the right direction or pointed my in the right direction since day one.
I don’t know if its a skill as much a part of my DNA, but I’m never satisfied, I’m always trying to be better with each project, and I think that has served me well. Sometimes I laugh when I see some of my earlier releases when compared to where the label is today.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Jeremy Myers and I’m the co-founder and Label Manager/Owner of Jump Start Records. Jump Start is an independent record label that has been putting out records since 1996. We’ve released over 100 records in that time and for better or for worse, I’m still at it.
I think I”m most proud of all the friends and memories I’ve made over the year and to be honest, I don’t think often about how the label has affected or been important to people over the years. Its easy to see the direct connection with the band, but every so often I run into someone that makes me take a step back and think about everything the label has done over the past two and a half decades.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
Two books that were hugely influential for me was The Anarchist Cookbook and Book Your Own Fucking Life. Both gave me a drive and passion to do things on my own and be an open book when it comes to all of life’s adventures and experiences. Without both I don’t think I’d be doing what I do with the label or my ‘paying’ gig as a professional Brewer and Distiller.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me its when I see people really connect with a record and artist I’m working or have worked with or seeing the energy and excitement in the room when a band plays. Being able to bring bands and artists I’m passionate about to people’s attention is really why I do this. Its great when other people enjoy a band or see the same things in them that I do.
