We were lucky to catch up with Jeremy Miller recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jeremy , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
Although I have been creative and into music my entire life, prior to my freshman year in college I never realized it was even possible to do professionally…. especially for a guy from a small town like Anderson, SC.
I was 17, almost 18 years old going to school in Myrtle Beach and I met a guy named Jason. We worked at the same day job and he was a DJ on the weekends. He invited me out to the club he was a resident at and really after that the rest for me was history. I was a young impressionable kid in a town where I knew very few people and had just had my first nightlife experience.
I started going back every weekend. I eventually met more and more of the staff including one of the other DJ’s named Kyle. Jason & Kyle became like big brothers to me. Working with them, I was helping run lights on weekends and all the while I was absorbing everything I could about DJing, Performing, Crowd Interaction, as well as the beautiful and the ugly sides of the business.
After running lights for several months and practicing DJing during my free time, Jason and Kyle let me open the night with my own set. It took all of about 15 minutes and a few great reactions for the crowd for me to be hooked. I had already been studying and practicing for a while now, so seeing it all in play and feeling energy from the crowd – there was no way I could ever look back.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Hey! For those who may not know me, my name is Jeremy but *most* people know me as DJFWB, ‘FWB’ or some just yell out “FUNKY!” when they see me… (all are acceptable haha) – I have been DJing and Producing music full time for the better part of 10+ years now.
I’ve always had a deep appreciation for music, so sharing it with people has been something I’ve always loved to do. Before I really knew that DJing was a thing I was making tapes or CDs and giving them out on the school bus to friends who had Walkman cassette or cd players. I would record radio shows that had my favorite songs on them (Shout out DJ Scientist and 107.3 JAMZ.)
No matter what stage of life I was in, I’ve always found myself drawn to places that have music, people who play music and everything involved with created and sharing music.
I never knew it or recognized it at the time, but I suppose all of that naturally led me towards DJing and Producing as a hobbyist and then later on a professional level.
Currently as an artist I am available for a variety of music and consulting work:
DJing –
– Night Clubs.
– Festivals.
– Private Events.
– Weddings.

(Domestic and International)

Luckily in this space everything is creative, fun and all about curating a great experience. I’m proud to have been doing just that for so long now. Years of following different avenues related to music has given me a lot of knowledge in many different areas that involve music. At the core my passion to share all that remains the same as it always has.
For anyone interested in anything mentioned above, I’d love to connect with you!
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
I would just say if you know someone who is a creative person, artist, musician, really anyone who is passionate about making and sharing anything… something as simple as a comment on a post or a share is great.
If you want to dig deeper, consider that you’re already spending your money with companies who are complete strangers – you don’t know them personally and they don’t know you, ask yourself if you could be spending a portion of that with someone you know? Could you be supporting their business instead?
For me personally, when people book me, buy my merch, or commission me for any other services, they are not putting money into some huge corporate fund, their money is going towards things like my daughter’s dance fee’s, they are supporting a business that is being managed by a family. Their money is moving from our business to us and then spent in the community with other small businesses. The positive outcomes that are generated just by being coherent where you spend your money and choosing to spend it with an artist or creative are huge and they trickle out into the neighborhoods we live in.
If you can’t afford to buy a product, challenge yourself to support them online where you can. We usually hate to ask for any support but when we see it happening it means the world to us.
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
I believe unless you are a creative person, you don’t fully understand how much we live and breathe our projects.
For most, I feel like what we do comes off as a hobby or a phase when in reality we’ve poured much of our lives, countless hours, resources and every bit of ourselves into what we do.
If you see a person who is passionate about music, art, or anything at all really – there’s a huge chance that it’s not just a phase, that it’s a way of life. I know for me, music, sharing music, performing, creating and everything that comes with it is just as much a part of who I am as my name or my hair color or my eye color. It feels like it’s something that’s embedded in my DNA and I couldn’t stop thinking about that stuff even if I tried.
I know that sounds dramatic, but how else can I relay the message that this is not a hobby or a phase – it’s who we are, and it’s what we do.
