We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jeremy Milbourn. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jeremy below.
Jeremy, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Was there a moment in your career that meaningfully altered your trajectory? If so, we’d love to hear the backstory.
I’ve been a personal trainer for about 10 years now. The moment I realized I needed to evolve or leave, was when I met someone who did my job, in minutes. She had developed an excel sheet that could take people information and calculate their new diet.
Something that I would do manually that could take hours. After that, I started playing around with excel and also watching about 15hrs of YouTube videos, on how to use excel. From that I developed my own sheet that would calculate your macros, based on: weight, height, age, sex, activity level and personal goals. I just kept going after that. Then I made a sheet to calculate someone’s water consumption then I made a sheet that can build a 12 week workout program for them in seconds. It’s all based on their current lifting abilities, doesn’t matter what level you’re at. You type in an exercise, the weight and reps you’re able to do currently, and it will calculate a 12 week progressive overload program. Tells you the weight, the reps and the tempo.
But I felt like it was still missing something. I wanted to make something for both fitness people and martial artists. So now I’m interviewing professionals in all fields, giving advice on how people should be training: wrestlers, jiu-jitsu black belts, boxers, Muay Thai fighters, I also bring in dietitian, other personal trainers and chefs. People who are experts in their field who can help people eat, train, cook and live healthier lives.

Jeremy, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m a personal trainer, nutritionist and Muay Thai coach. I’ve been a personal trainer and nutritionist for about 10 years now and Muay Thai coach for about 7.
I love fitness and martial arts. It’s been my passion since I was a kids and watch WWE then eventually I started watching the UFC and had to start my martial arts journey.
I help people find their confidence and strength. Sometimes they just want to lose 20lbs, sometimes they’re getting bullied at school or sometimes they just don’t realize how strong they really are, until I show them. What sets me apart from others? Definitely my personality. I don’t tell you what you want to hear. I’m not a hype man. I tell you what you need to hear then show you how to get there. And I’m there with you, every step of the way.

If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
I wouldn’t change anything. I love my work and I’m only getting started. The fitness world is constantly evolving and I love that makes me have to constantly be learning.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Word of mouth is by far the most powerful tool I’ve used. The clients I’ve been training for 5+years are all referrals from previous clients. They saw the results, asked how they did it then wanted me to do the same for them.
