Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jeremy Jus’Black Davis. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jeremy Jus’Black , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you feel you or your work has ever been misunderstood or mischaracterized? If so, tell us the story and how/why it happened and if there are any interesting learnings or insights you took from the experience?
I have found that being a Public figure comes with the daunting pressure of your voice being Amplified and consequently left up to interpretation, unfortunately once you have been identified as “A Thing” it becomes really hard to climb out of that classification. I think that the same can be true for many things in Life. To combat this problem I try to show Duality and Nuance and hopefully such variety will make it hard to pigeon hold me to “One thing”.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My Name is Jeremy Davis, I’m professionally known as Jus’Black which derives from a childhood nickname and a Freudian mispronunciation while being introduced at a spoken word performance. The short origin story is i was invited as a Guest on a small talk radio show and eventually I was invited to stay on as a cohost from there I was hired to be an on air personality for the only syndicated Nightly Hip-Hop show with Florida Legend DJ Raylo and Pupp that aired on 9 stations im 30 cities throughout Florida, after the collapse of the network that housed the terrestrial radio station I Started a wildly successful Local Podcast that we filmed before a Live Studio audience called The Arrogant A**holes Podcast and started a Media Company and YouTube channel called Jus’Black TV. Additional credits is some writing credits for Regional Blogs and Magazines.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Many times in my creative Journey I’ve had to Pivot including my first radio show being derailed by the privately funded station folded I had to find a new “in” into radio and found myself selling advertising slots for the station I eventually was able to work my way on air and becoming the number one voice for the station. That station unfortunately folded as well and so started a Podcast which at the time was relatively unchartered territory for urban entertainment especially Locally.

Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I few tools that I didn’t understand and didn’t realize the importance of was first YouTube that allows you to broadcast yourself and build your Audience for Free as well Anchor which is now called “Podcast for Spotify” that also allows you upload and craft your podcast to the top podcast streaming platforms for Free. And lastly Social Media/internet that allows you to virtually network and promote yourself and your brand.
