Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jeremy Hinds. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jeremy, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Have you been able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen? Was it like that from day one? If not, what were some of the major steps and milestones and do you think you could have sped up the process somehow knowing what you know now?
Doing creative work full-time definitely didn’t happen over night. I started photography as a hobby but got serious about it my senior year of high school. That year, I started creating music videos with my friends who made music. I wasn’t the best but I think they were just happy somebody had a camera. I’d say consistency is how I made it happen. Since 2015 I think I’ve done at least 300 videos alone. I’ve been shooting full time up until I moved to Dallas, TX in 2021. I’ve had a love-hate relationship with doing creative work full time though. I feel like most people think that sounds great, but when what you do for the love turns into something you pay bills with, it gets complicated.

Jeremy, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Jeremy Hinds, owner of SHOTBYJHINDS. I’m a 25 year old director, photographer and designer from Tupelo, Mississippi now living in Dallas,Texas. I offer mostly natural light photography, professional video and graphic design. I love helping other people, artists and small business owners maximise their potential while helping them see their best selves in the process.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I think there is nothing like seeing your idea go from just being a thought to something that exists in the world. Creating art you’re proud of is special.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I think that story is still writing itself right now. Mississippi is not an environment that supports creativity so anybody that makes something there is really like a rose growing out of concrete. My journey is far from done but keeping God close and being a student of the process has taken me farther than I’d ever dreamt of.
