We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jeremy Halalayah. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jeremy below.
Jeremy, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you feel you or your work has ever been misunderstood or mischaracterized? If so, tell us the story and how/why it happened and if there are any interesting learnings or insights you took from the experience?
In my creative journey and in life, one of the recurring challenges I’ve faced is the feeling of being misunderstood. This often stems from the fact that I experience emotions on a heightened level. While this emotional depth fuels my creativity and provides me with a unique perspective, it can also lead to a sense of isolation and mischaracterization.
One of the key factors contributing to this misunderstanding is the intensity of my emotions. I feel things deeply, whether it’s joy, sorrow, passion, or frustration. This emotional depth can be a driving force behind my work, allowing me to create art, music, and performances that resonate with others on a profound level. However, it can also lead to moments where my reactions and expressions might seem outsized or challenging for some to relate to.
In a world where many people tend to moderate their emotions and maintain a certain equilibrium, my heightened feelings can sometimes appear unconventional or even uncomfortable. This can result in others struggling to grasp the significance of what I’m experiencing and expressing, often leading to misconceptions or mischaracterizations.
Additionally, this emotional intensity can impact how I approach my work. It drives me to create with a level of authenticity and vulnerability that might not align with conventional norms. I aim to create art that transcends superficiality and connects with the deeper, more profound aspects of human experience. However, this authenticity can sometimes be seen as a vulnerability by those who may not fully comprehend the depth of my creative process.
In moments of being misunderstood, I’ve learned the importance of patience and empathy. It’s crucial for me to recognize that not everyone will perceive the world or process emotions in the same way. Moreover, my heightened feelings are not a flaw but rather a unique aspect of my identity that shapes my creative output.
Ultimately, while being misunderstood at times can be challenging, it’s also an integral part of the creative journey. It’s a reminder that art, at its core, is a form of self-expression, and self-expression often leads to misinterpretation. However, it’s in these moments of mischaracterization that we can discover opportunities for growth, self-discovery, and a deeper connection with those who resonate with our unique perspective.
Jeremy, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m Jeremy Halalayah, also known as LOVRemy, and I hail from Cincinnati, OH. My diverse skill set includes being an artist, songwriter, producer, engineer, voice actor, and theologian. While I’m involved in various fields, my music journey is where I’d like to shed some light.
My musical adventure began in church, where I discovered my passion for music. Even as a toddler, I seemed to have an innate sense of rhythm, earning compliments from my daycare teachers for keeping beat while playing the tambourine—quite a feat for a child. Looking back, I can’t pinpoint a specific “start” to my music career; it’s always been an integral part of who I am.
As a preteen, I started crafting beats on my piano, eventually transitioning to creating instrumentals on the computer. It wasn’t until I turned 15 that I began recording and transforming my musical ideas into tangible songs. I remember the early days of recording on an MP3 player, but here I am now, with four albums released and the fifth one slated for 2024.
What truly sets me apart is my relentless pursuit of success. While I deeply appreciate the encouragement and support from my loyal followers, I see their praise as a step in the journey, not the destination. It’s one thing to talk about dreams and ambitions, but what distinguishes me is an unwavering determination to turn those aspirations into reality. I don’t just aim to meet my goals; I constantly push myself to surpass them. Success, for me, isn’t a finish line; it’s a path I’m committed to traveling, continuously improving and evolving as I go.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
For those who don’t walk the path of creativity, it might be challenging to fully grasp the emotional and life sensitivity that comes with it. You see, as creatives, we experience the world in a unique way – we “feel” on a different level. This isn’t just about having amplified emotions; it’s about having an emotional depth that goes beyond the surface.
Our work is a reflection of our innermost thoughts, fears, dreams, and vulnerabilities. When we create, whether it’s through art, music, or any other channel, we put our souls out publicly for the world to see. We channel our emotions, memories, traumas, fears, and so on into our work, and this is what gives it that powerful and resonant quality.
However, this depth of feeling doesn’t switch off when we’re not creating. It’s constantly with us. We see beauty and inspiration in places that others might overlook. We’re affected by the pain, suffering and injustices that we see in day-to-day life. It’s both a blessing and a burden because, while it fuels our creativity, it can also lead to intense moments of vulnerability and emotional intensity.
So, what’s difficult for non-creatives to understand is that our journey stretches beyond our Art. Our creations are the children of our emotional experiences, and they carry a piece of our soul within them.
This depth of “feeling” isn’t just a tool for our art; it’s a way of navigating life. It’s what allows us to connect with people on a deeper level, to empathize deeply, and to see the world through a different lens. But it can also be a double-edged sword, as it can lead to periods of intense pain, heartache and self-doubt.
In essence, what sets us creatives apart is our unique emotional sensitivity, our ability to “feel” and interpret the world in a way that others may find both inspiring and overwhelming. It’s a gift, and at times, a challenge, but it’s the price we must pay for The Gifts that God has given us.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
One of the most poignant examples of my resilience emerges from those moments when I’ve had to press on despite the weight of emotional and physical exhaustion. These are times when I’m juggling the demands of work, the complexities of daily life, and, at times, the absence of support from those around me. This journey, especially within the creative sphere, can be particularly arduous.
What’s especially thought-provoking is the contrast with certain family members. They readily share music from well-known artists and are quick to commend my talents, yet at times, it seems they may not offer the same level of sharing and support for my work that they do for individuals they’ve never even met.
I had to learn how to overcome these challenges, remembering that validation does not define how great an individual is in a specific field. Its a daily challenge, but it’s one that I face head-on. I always remind myself that having an abundance of external validation does not necessarily equate to possessing talent; it merely means that an individual has garnered attention, and all attention is not created equal. So, while I may not be as known as I hope to be, that does not mean that I’m not good enough or talented enough.
