We were lucky to catch up with Jeremy Brown recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Jeremy thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
Honestly I think it’s pretty simple to be successful, but as the old saying goes ‘it’s so simple it’s easy not to do.’ I believe and have read multiple books that show doing a few simple tasks over and over again (making it a habit) leads to success. Many of these steps to success are really simple, but we overlook them because we’re all looking to be the next Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk, Steph Curry, Giannis, etc. Now if you take the time to read the autobiographies of players like Giannis from the Milwaukee Bucs, you’ll see he never played basketball before someone found him and started teaching him the basics of basketball. He didn’t play in the best gyms, sports clubs, etc. but he practiced the basics nonstop and for hours after practices or games. So we try to do the same with our business, give our customers a wow moment from our services and make sure our employees are properly compensated.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
I am a blogger/influencer on Instagram and my account is called chocolatemusclefoodie. I love to share the latest book I’ve read, great places to travel, and great spots to eat. I love good food and I think for the most part food seems to be something most of us can agree on, unlike politics and religion. ;-) I joined Instagram around 2016 after being on Yelp and one of my Canadian friends told me there’s a big foodie following on Instagram and you can get some paid gigs via Instagram. Since joining Instagram I’ve had paid gigs with Panera Bread, Kroger, Krystal’s, McDonald’s, Hooter’s, Dunkin’ Donuts, and other local restaurants.
I’m also the owner of OxiFresh Carpet Cleaning of Cobb County with my wife Kimi. We started out seeking to open a boutique gym in Kennesaw back in 2019, but the pandemic hit by the time we secured a lease and banks refused to fund any gyms. Our bank worked with us on finding a new business to start, so we worked with a business coach by the name of Laura Rau to find a new business. We ended up settling on OxiFresh Carpet Cleaning because we hadn’t heard of any innovation in the carpet cleaning business and they had a process that allowed your carpet to be cleaned properly, then dry within 1 hour. We are impressed with the carpet cleaning process and many of our customers love the process too (just checkout our google reviews).

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I think I showed my resilience when we persisted on starting our business no matter what, despite the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic hitting right in the middle of our business loan process. We wanted that boutique gym and banks didn’t want to fund any gyms, so we went back to the drawing board until we secured a business we liked. We had a goal of starting a business and I didn’t want that momentum to leave us, we were hungry for this business. We remained persistent until we succeeded.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Honestly, it all seems like a blur. ;-) I just stuck with my unique account name that was a nickname given to me by sme my Army buddies. They called me Chocolate Muscle, because of my height, beautiful chocolate complexion (LMAO), and love for a good workout. I’ve always stuck with my true personality, realizing people will find you and like your page. Stay true to you and you’ll eventually appeal to others. I like puns, love a good joke, love to share food, I love to travel, and I love reading. I don’t have 100k followers, but I receive many paid contracts with big brands because they see the interactions I get from my social media community.
