We recently connected with Jeremiah Woods and have shared our conversation below.
Jeremiah, appreciate you joining us today. Was there a moment in your career that meaningfully altered your trajectory? If so, we’d love to hear the backstory.
Two and a half years ago I was selected to serve as a part of the jury for a court case in which a 12 and 15 year old pair of sisters were accusing their stepfather of sexual assault. It was at the end of that trial that I began to see flaws in the justice system and in the conversations we were having in society about consent sexual violence and with the true realities were. That’s what led me to start The Hands Off Foundation Inc. sometimes the most defining moment of your life and career can be seeing a problem and deciding you want to do something about it.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
A self-described bowtie enthusiast, Jeremiah M. Woods, also known as Bow-Tie, is the founder of The Hands Off Foundation Inc. He is someone who is committed to advocating for those who have had their voice and their power stripped away from them. He has spent the last two years learning and developing his skillset as a sexual assault advocate, and is currently most passionate about the work he is doing through his non-profit, to create a community that will not stand for 28 million women a year being effected by sexual assault.
We are literally working to build a community. The goal of the Hands Off Foundation Inc is to build a place were women and children affected by sexual violence can Live, Work and Grow.
Those three pillars are the foundational keys to success after trauma.
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
To be successful in this field and really in life one most be B.O.W.T.I.E.
Bold
Optimistic
Wise
Tangible
Impactful
Effective
These six principals are the guidelines in which I operate.
In addition to that, one must listen. Listen so good you hear what a survivor may be saying, not saying and everything in-between.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
Aside from B.O.W.T.I.E. more than fashion and fabric, I would suggest Who not How and the Subtle Art of not Giving a F***.
Three of the best books I’ve read in a long time.
