We were lucky to catch up with Jeremiah Douglass recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jeremiah, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
I would have to say that the biggest risk I have taken in my musical career so far it’s becoming a solo artist this year. A couple of months ago, the idea of being a solo artist seemed impossible. It was weird, because for some things I do like to be the center of the attention (like making people laugh). But for other things such as performing in front of people…. seemed to vulnerable. But one thing I learned is that people appreciate when you are vulnerable with them because in return they now also feel that they can be vulnerable with you especially through music. Every now and then I accomplish something that lets me know that I can do anything that I put my mind to. Stepping out and becoming a solo artist was one of those things this year.

Jeremiah, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I was into music at a very young age. My father was a huge inspiration to me. He was a gospel quartet singer, as well as a guitarist. He is the main reason why I am the musician I am today. Whenever I create, I always have in mind the end goal of how I want someone to feel when they listen to my art. I always want to make people think deeper and tap into those deeper feelings. usually before every show, I always asked the audience “Can we have a conversation?”. A conversation between me playing, and the audience listening. I provide my clients a plethora of things, but the main thing that I can say that I provide is a way to help bring their vision to a reality either through music production or a live show. What sets me apart from others is my professionalism and my passion. I am most proud of myself for being a solo artist this year, something that I thought I would never be able to do because of fear. One thing that I want people to know is that whenever I’m playing a show near you, you can always expect a great experience that will cause you to think.

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
One simple thing that’s society can do to best support artist is to buy artist work from the artist directly. Such a songs paintings, or whatever that artist produces. If you buy it from the artist directly, you will help that artist way more instead of listening from a Apple Music account, Spotify or whatever third-party service. Because the artist only sees a fraction of that money.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding thing about being artist is being able to support my family, as well as seeing people appreciate you for what you create.
