We recently connected with Jeremiah Dischinger and have shared our conversation below.
Jeremiah, appreciate you joining us today. So, let’s imagine that you were advising someone who wanted to start something similar to you and they asked you what you would do differently in the startup-process knowing what you know now. How would you respond?
I would probably learn sales and conversational skills sooner. Learning this exploded my career as a photographer on social media. This would have opened opportunities for myself much sooner. In the creative industry something that sets apart successful people and those who quit is there ability to sell their creative pieces and connect with people. The faster myself or anyone learns that skill the quicker great things will happen for them.

Jeremiah, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Jeremiah Dischinger, I’m know as jdthecameraguy on social media. Through all my social media accounts I’ve amassed over four and a half million followers through various mediums of photography. My most popular being teaching people how to take great photos with their smartphone. Really making great photography a simple process. I got into this industry when I was 13. I used to be an avid gamer and would work with photoshop to edit for other gamers. This lead down to a path where I picked up a camera around the age of 15 and I combined photography with my photoshop skills to work towards a social media career.
I currently offer two products to people who take photos with their phones or cameras. I have adobe lightroom presets and iphone photography tip cards, both available on my website jdthecameraguy.com, though in the near future I plan on releasing more products. One being a full outlined video course teaching people photography and editing on iPhone. The second being a detailed editing course on how people can edit amazing images with photoshop!
The main issue I’m currently solving for people is showing them an easy way to take great photos from their smartphone from the perspective of someone who has been studying art and photography for over 12 years. I think the thing that sets me apart from others in the industry is a combination of my work ethic, my business skills, and creative ability. I don’t see many people in the industry who piece all of that together themselves. Most people reach out to other entities for business/creative help. I do it all for my social media pages.
One thing I find myself very proud of is what I overcame to get to where I currently am. I’m from a small town of about 2,000 to 3,000 people. I was picked on growing up which led to some self esteem issues for myself that I’d say I’ve improved tremendously. By the age of 19 I’d never really had a formal job in anything creative, the jobs I’d had were as a dishwasher, line cook, and as a poultry farmer. I watched mainly youtube videos and put thousands of hours into my craft to learn what I know. Growing up I lived in a house with close family members who had substance abuse issues which made working on what I enjoy most very difficult. As well I had made a lot of mistakes in my teenage years due to peer pressure and having a lack of respect for myself, which I’m very proud to say I have been able to conquer by my mid twenties.
Some main things I would like to let clients, followers, and or fans to know about what I do is that I do it to not only express my creativity, but I also do it because many people feel limited in their ability to be creative by obstacles sometimes out of their control and I really want to try to eliminate those obstacles to allow people to express their creativity and learn a great skill without any obstacles. Lastly I would say I also do what I do to help others out and connect with others in a positive manner, really helping them feel better about what they’re able to do and make them feel better about themselves.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I do have a very strong mission that is very personal to me. I want to show others that it’s possible to do great things no matter what people try to project onto people trying to accomplish their goals. Whether you’re just a young kid or on your death bed. The things you do have an impact on others, and sometimes one person is all someone needs to avoid going on a bad path. One positive influence can change the lives of people you haven’t even met and could change generations to come. Be the person who is a positive impact on others because it one person trying to being impactful is all it takes.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
My story started when I was doing door to door sales. This helped me learn about marketing, negotiating, and influence. While doing this sales job I connected with some other business people to try launching a business. While trying to launch this business they needed someone to work on their content creation for another business they had. Which I stepped in to do that role. After stepping into that role and doing it for a bit, I realized the previous business I had wanted to start wasn’t what I wanted to do. Being a content creator was what I wanted to do. So I worked tons to understand the industry more and how I could offer something to the marketplace to do this all the time… and thats exactly what I did.
My advice to people starting to build a social media presence is to look into marketing, media production, and how to tell a story. Many popular creators curate their content in such an elegant way that strikes a chord with the viewer in whatever subject it is they are talking about. I think learning these skills will drastically change the way any person who wants to do social media will create content.
