Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to JerèAlexandra. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, JerèAlexandra thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s the kindest thing anyone has ever done for you?
kindness has been shown to me by many people across my life. But, this one kindness sticks out because this person had no real link to me or my personal life.
After a family emergency cleared all of my savings, I was struggling to stay afloat financially. I started looking into withdrawing money from my 401k to take care of things. Doing so, involved speaking to my company HR rep to fill out the paperwork. Unfortunately, my reason wasn’t valid so she had to deny my request.
About a week after the denial, she called me into her office and handed me an envelope with cash and 3 gift cards for each of my daughters. Immediate tears!!
I do not remember her name but that moment will stay with me forever. She did what she was “supposed to do” and then went above and beyond
JerèAlexandra, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am originally from Boston,MA. I grew up on the East Coast spending some time in Puerto Rico and Jacksonville FL. I relocated to Scottsdale, AZ with my 3 daughters.
I come from a family of creatives, my full time job as an analyst left me wanting to unleash my other side. I started painting 3 years ago as a means to entertain my girls. I’m inspired by people, sights, music and the energy around me. I work in acrylic on canvas and strive fill spaces with art you can feel!
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
It’s a story I hate to rehash but I love the end result. I was married and with my third pregnancy, we decided I should be a SAHM. About a year later, my husband had moved out and myself and our children were homeless.
Jobless and in a shelter, with an 8 year old, 2 year old and an almost 1 year old. I was literally at the bottom. I never gave up TRYING. And though I had some down days I never stayed there. I managed to find a job and save money to get my own apt.
My children were my motivation to never stop until I had “bounced back”
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being a creative is when I show a piece and people who have no idea the backstory can feel the energy or emotion that I was feeling while creating the piece. I’m able to clearly communicate a feeling while also leaving space for the viewer to have their own interpretation.
