We were lucky to catch up with Jeralyn Victoria recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Jeralyn thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
I’m creating a product line of custom residential and commercial wallpapers through a new local printer that I’m thrilled to be partnering with! My abstract artwork has been available as prints and wallpaper for some time, but it just felt like something was missing until I found a local resource that I could confide in to take this concept to the next level in both quality and execution.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m a full time artist and a graduate of the Minneapolis College of Art & Design and currently reside in Saint Paul, Minnesota. I grew up in North Dakota where the minimalist landscape, access to nature and sometimes extreme weather influenced my evident love of raw earthy texture and industrious use of unexpected materials.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Whether the surface of the painting has been distressed, angled, cross stitched or woven with upcycled silk, these works support a poetic interior design that embrace imperfection and soulful detail in both the space itself and the inhabitants.
My art honors the idea that the home is simply a larger body…our dwellings generously mirror our inner curiosity, play and need for grounding and it only made sense to create wallpapers from this work as an extension. To literally wrap the walls in this texture and concept.

How did you build your audience on social media?
Instead of thinking about what people want, I focus on authenticity and personal metaphor and ironically that focus on self instead of stereotypical imagery has created resonance, connection and followship. Being happy for fellow creatives instead of threatened while making sure to verbalize and communicate appreciation has greatly helped create meaningful social media, but it also breaks down the sometimes distance and coldness on these apps with the lack of direct human contact. I learned the hard way to really make social media as vulnerable and human as possible while keeping boundaries and balancing that with in-person networking, valuing one on one local, direct connections.
