We were lucky to catch up with Jensen Lang recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jensen, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
I wanted to create a space that felt cozy, welcoming, and full of charm—something that captured the warmth of a home while embracing the character of Nashville. ‘The Nashville Cottage’ just felt right—it’s simple, warm, and perfectly captures the vibe I was going for. It’s all about creating a space where people feel at home, whether they’re here for a shoot or just soaking in the charm. I wanted the name to reflect the experience I hope people have when they step into the space.

Jensen, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’ve always loved creating—whether it’s a business, a space, or an idea. My entrepreneurial journey started at 14 with a jewelry business, and it’s taken me through fashion, running an online boutique, and eventually social media management. But my love for interior design truly came alive when I started renovating my 1950s home.
The idea for The Nashville Cottage came when I was house hunting to purchase my first home. I dreamed of finding a place with a space I could share—a space that could be more than just four walls. When I found this home, I knew it had the potential to become something really special. Right now, it’s a cozy spot for photoshoots and events, but soon it will also be available as an overnight rental, a little Nashville escape for people to slow down and feel at home.
The cottage is so much more than just a business to me—it’s a reflection of everything I love. It’s about creating moments and memories, whether someone’s celebrating something big or simply enjoying a quiet stay. I’ve poured my heart into every detail, my favorite thing is when I visit and Airbnb and you can feel how much love went into the space rather than it feeling like just a way that person makes extra money.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
When I first started building my social media presence, it was all about sharing what I loved—whether it was my home renovations, design projects, or everyday moments. I didn’t overthink it. I showed up authentically, sharing the highs, the lows, and everything in between. Over time, I realized that people were connecting with me because I was being real, not trying to present a perfect picture. That’s when my audience really started to grow.
The key to growing a connected audience is sharing your story. People love the story behind the brand and the vision—it’s what makes you relatable and real. My advice for anyone just starting is to focus on consistency and authenticity. Don’t worry about having the perfect feed or following the latest trends. Instead, just be yourself and show what you’re passionate about. People are drawn to real stories and genuine connections. Engage with your audience, share your journey, and remember that building a community takes time—it’s a process, but it’s worth it.
Also, don’t be afraid to experiment! Try different content types, whether it’s behind-the-scenes, tutorials, or just daily life. You never know what will resonate, and that’s part of the fun.

Have you ever had to pivot?
One of the biggest pivots in my life happened right after I graduated from Florida State during COVID. I had always dreamed of being a celebrity stylist, but with everything shutting down, my plans changed. I started an online clothing store, which was a huge leap for me. At the time, I was working full-time as a nanny to support myself while pursuing this dream, juggling everything at once.
Then, I made another big move: I moved to Nashville, not knowing anyone and without a job lined up, but trusting it was the right place for a fresh start. I landed a job in fashion, thinking it would teach me the ins and outs of running a large brick-and-mortar store, thinking that this was the next move for my business. They realized I had an eye for social media and eventually asked me to manage theirs.
That unexpected pivot led me to where I am now. Social media management became my full-time focus, and I’ve never looked back. Every step along the way taught me something new and brought me closer to what I’m doing today—helping other businesses tell their story and grow through social media.
