We were lucky to catch up with Jennylina Duperon recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jennylina, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
As an owner of a Bridal Hair and Makeup Business in a very saturated market, one of the things that sets us apart is how small we are and how that is not a disadvantage. Industry standards typically require continued growth in a team in order to bring more profit and cover weddings on a larger scale. As a smaller team, we are able to be more relational with our clients and truly get to know them and they get to know us from booking all the way to their wedding date. This creates a great experience they remember and will be more likely to recommend us. We have heard from clients firsthand, who have hired other large hair and makeup teams and felt as if they were just a number. The artist who did their hair and makeup trial was not the same person who worked with them the day of their wedding. That can sometimes cause additional stress and anxiety for the bride and her bridal party. We love being available for the client throughout their experience and talking them through the looks and styles that they are considering.
My focus has always been to grow in relationships not only with clients, but with my team. I personally have found that having a smaller team who I can trust has allowed me to manage my business well while also allowing me the freedom to enjoy my family time.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Jennylina Duperon and I am the owner of Graceful Glow Makeup Services. We are a traveling Hair and Makeup Team who specializes in Bridal. We offer airbrush and traditional makeup and hairstyles that range from updos to Hollywood waves. We are based out of Pasco County and travel all throughout the Tampa Bay area and surrounding cities. We can accommodate any bridal party size and the best part is that we travel to the client. Although weddings are our specialty, we also offer makeup classes, special event makeup, fitness competition or stage makeup, fashion, photography and more.
I am most proud of how much this dream has grown and developed throughout the years. In the course of 7 years, I’ve had the opportunity to work with so many amazing people, some were clients and others worked alongside me. This industry has changed so much throughout the years, however our focus has remained the same and that is in caring for our clients, listening to them and helping them feel beautiful. That is at the core of why I started this business and I am so grateful to have a team who supports the same values and vision.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I believe what has helped me build my reputation within my market is my communication with clients. It is so important to follow up and follow through. Often times, I hear clients who have had negative experiences with other teams due to lack of communication. I believe you can be the most talented artist, but if you lack the business part of this, it could really affect your entire reputation. As a consumer, I will only hire or shop where I trust the business and know that they are credible and reliable. That is why I make sure that my clients receive all of the necessary communication from me so that there are no misunderstandings. It is so important because these are the big things that could really make or break a business’s reputation.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source of new clients for me has always been word of mouth also known as referrals. I take special care of those who have come to me through a recommendation because I know they did not only recommend Graceful Glow Makeup, but they recommended me. I make sure to always reach out to that person who recommended our team and thank them and I also offer incentives for referrals because we truly believe that is the best form of marketing. I would say about %75 of our business and clients are referrals.
