We recently connected with Jenny Vang and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Jenny thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
Food has always been a passion of mine. I’ve always enjoyed baking and sharing what I bake. And if I couldn’t share it with you personally then I felt like I could at least share my recipe with you, so that you can make it at home. But then it wasn’t just sharing the recipes it was actually explaining and teaching how to make these recipes because not everyone knows how to bake. Which is how my blog came to be. It’s because I believed that everyone should at least know how to make chocolate chip cookies and enjoy it at midnight if they want to.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hi I’m Jenny! Owner of “Of Jen Sweets.”
I am a professionally trained pastry graduate. I am no longer in that field as life has taken its course and led me to where I am today. I’ve worked in several bakeries in my past years mass producing decorated cakes, cupcakes, cookies and several other pastries.
I became a stay-at-home mom in 2018 and took custom orders for cakes and macarons and continued until I had my third daughter in 2023. We had moved into a smaller home and with 3 little ones under the age of 3 I just felt like I couldn’t bake anymore and take custom orders.
And then one day I decided to start blogging because it seemed like something I could do with my kids at home. Blogging was hard, I had to learn so much and all I wanted to really do was just bake. But there was so much to learn about building a website, photography, Seo and all these other words I’ve never heard of. But I was able to blog on my own time instead of taking custom orders. I blogged for about 2 months; it was exciting and fun. And then I became pregnant with our last child, (my husband and I wanted four kids), but God gave us twins boys. I stopped blogging for almost a year and honestly thought I would never go back until the twins were older, but I had an itch and a desire to go back, and I did!
So now I slowly started blogging again with my kids and I had 5 kids under the age of 4 at the time. I started remembering how much I enjoyed this. And then a friend of ours was opening up a restaurant and I thought wow that sounds like fun! I’ve always dreamed of opening a bakery when I was younger, but with my kids I knew it was almost impossible. After a lot of discussion, we decided to take the plunge and start small by selling my baked goods at events, pop ups and possibly catering.
I could not be prouder of where we are now the beginning was hard as I was trying to find my flow, but now I am just trying to balance both. Blogging on my days when I don’t have an event and working on events when my husband comes home from work. But we make it happen; it just takes a little bit of hard work and perseverance.

Can you talk to us about manufacturing? How’d you figure it all out? We’d love to hear the story.
I’ve focused on decorated cakes, cookies and macarons for long. I now don’t enjoy making decorated cakes. I wanted to learn something new and heard about gourmet donuts. It started in Chicago where I had my first gourmet donut, and then New York and then Minnesota. I learned and practiced what was fitting to my taste and started selling it.
Making gourmet donuts wasn’t like decorating cakes or making macarons. It was time sensitive, and it required early mornings and a lot of hands-on time. I’ve made several donuts at home before but not in a commercial kitchen making hundreds the morning before an event.

How’d you meet your business partner?
My business partner is my Husband. We’ve been together for 20 years and he’s the one that pushes me and has always believed in me. He has always told me that I should blog and open up my own bakery for so long I was just always scared. But in the right timing he had everything ready for me before I knew it.
