Jenny, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you tell us about a time where you or your team really helped a customer get an amazing result?
Absolutely, it’s my favorite “case study” titled DIGITAL TRAILBLAZERS – New Ways of Working:
In 2020, a large petrochemical client engaged my company, JEM Advisors, to assist in implementation of a new digital modernization project that was focused on deployment of Electronic/Digital Permitting (E-Permit) in operational assets. Our digital team immediately engaged the client team and used the agile methodology to successfully implement the project.
Benefits of Implementation of E-Permit Digital Project:
• Boosted Collaboration (between the E-Permit digital team, IT, operations,
leadership)
• Enhanced Performance (the E-Permit rollout improved the safety checks and reduced process safety risks during repairs & maintenance of equipment)
• Gained Efficiencies (the project enabled operations personnel to more
efficiently track permits and missing tasks prior to permit approvals)
• Becoming Agile (the project enabled the whole organization to move rapidly in testing and providing feedback to the project team, and empowered front-end employees to have a say on the way the product looked)
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I spent eight years in the private equity trenches at SCF Partners, cultivating my experience through due diligence on several M&A transactions, IPOs and building the firm’s business development process. I am now President & CEO of JEM Advisors, a recognized leader of value optimization and transformation in the energy, manufacturing, and petrochemical industries. Our current projects include safety leadership, operational readiness, digital transformation, transactional due diligence, and operational excellence reviews. As a leader, I believe in core values which promote communication, collaboration, and client service.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
We won our first “digital” work – the Digital Trailblazers project – during the summer of 2020. I expected my entire team to be on board with what we were doing for our client. But just as clients struggle to get full engagement on a “digital transformation,” my small team of advisors was at odds on if we could deliver for the client. I was concerned I would lose key team members and the client over the disagreement. I call this moment my “rock tumbler of leadership” because I had to have some very difficult conversations to pull everyone together. We absolutely delivered value to this client and it’s one of my favorite stories and a great lesson learned.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing our clientele is to build trust with current customers and earn a solid reputation. You must show your integrity and deliver value.
