We were lucky to catch up with Jenny Max recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jenny, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How’s you first get into your field – what was your first job in this field?
I was in transition from the fast-paced lifestyle of the service industry, bartending & serving, to working at a yoga studio called Better Bodies Yoga. As I settled into a new role as a receptionist, I quickly became immersed in the practice of Yoga and it in turn provided me the confidence to begin a journey to transform myself.
I was really inspired by the healing potential of the practice, & dove right in. Within a year, I completed my Yoga Teacher Training at the studio while continuing my work as a receptionist. Part of the job was giving hands-on savasana, where we drap a warm cloth over the students eyes and massage their neck and shoulders. I could feel the positive impact it had on students’ and it deeply fulfilled me as well. This experience sparked a growing interest in Massage Therapy, prompting me to later pursue an education in the Appalachian Mountains.
Having earned my Massage Therapy license and honed new skills, I returned to Better Bodies Yoga, where my journey began as a Massage Therapist.
It’s a testament to the profound impact a community can have on our growth and development.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My life has been a journey of diversity and change. Growing up in a Navy family meant constantly moving to new states and countries every three years. It wasn’t until my dad retired in Memphis that I had the chance to truly settle down and put down roots.
Throughout my schooling and a brief college experience, followed by years of bartending and serving, I explored various paths, hobbies, and travels. After many years, even though I enjoyed the fast paced life, I began to realize the toll it took on my well-being.
After completing my yoga teacher training and getting married, my husband and I made a bold decision to move to the Appalachian Mountains. Here, in near isolation, I pursued my Massage Therapy license while immersing myself in local farms and arts. This experience transformed me and laid the foundation for the practitioner I am today.
Within the solitude of mountain life, I was able to delve deeper & explore my internal landscape, finding healing and self-understanding that only isolation could have offered me.
Now, returning to Memphis as an integrative healing practitioner, my mission is clear: to alleviate pain and restore peace within the body. I feel honored and grateful to share my journey and passion for health and wellness at Better Bodies Yoga today.
