We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jenny Hermosillo a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jenny , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
A mentor once told me, “Sometimes you have to run before you could walk”. At that very moment, I realized that the only person keeping me back was MYSELF. You see, we were talking about perfectionism, Perfectionist WAS my identity, but I didn’t realize how my perfectionism became my anxiety.
Ever since I could remember, I was a planner, organizer, and very “structured”. I worked a corporate job for 10 years and I loved RULES and loved being held accountable. It was easy, but it was “smoke and mirrors”. In life, it’s not always black and white, GRAY is everywhere.
My job and education kept me accountable to my work and my education, but when it came to keeping myself accountable to things I cared about, it seemed I was making empty promises to myself, and any confidence I had in myself dwindled away.
There I was at 24 years old, 40 pounds overweight, struggling with anxiety, depression, cystic acne, and unable to walk. Every time I stood up or had to walk, I’d cringe at the thought of getting up because of how painful it was. I thought to myself, “How did I allow myself to get here?”.
This was truly something that mattered to me, but instead of finding something that fit me, I tried to fit myself into “diets”, “programs”, “methods” etc. The more I quit or “fell off”, the more I lost confidence that I could ever truly feel GOOD.
I thought I had to be perfect for these things to work and I believed I WAS the problem. My perfectionism failed me…
During an emergency hospital visit, I realized, “this cannot be my life”. That was the day I decided to just start without expecting perfection (to RUN instead of walk). I took myself through a completely different process of combining my knowledge of nutrition, training, and mindset and setting it up to fit my lifestyle.
I’m not going to lie, at first, my purpose was just to lose weight, BUT what I gained, was MUCH more valuable than I could have ever imagined. I was able to quit my prescription medications for migraines, anxiety, and depression, I now am able to JUMP, HIKE, WALK, RUN, LIFT WEIGHTS, & clean the house without my back giving out.
Most importantly, my relationships have been further transformed, and my belief in myself has been IGNITED.
By the Grace of God, my story has led me to places to not only learn about my mission but to experience it, so that I can be a bridge for MORE woman to find their way back to health & joy of life.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hey beauties! My name is Jenny Elizabeth and I am an online health and wellness coach here to serve you on a deeper level. I don’t provide quick fixes or shame-focused protocols. My own journey taught me that there is a lot of hurt and pain behind starting something new, especially having to do with nutrition and training overall. I want other women to truly see the beauty within them without a number on the scale telling them otherwise.
I became a personal trainer in Phoenix, Arizona in 2021, and working at the gym was truly a rewarding experience. My biggest takeaway… Fitness is for EVERYONE. Seeing people from different walks of life come in through the gym door ignited a new understanding for me. A gym is a place everyone can walk into, no matter their background, ethnicity, age, or political/religious beliefs. Everyone WANTS to move better, & feel better. Naturally, I felt so grateful to serve others as their trainer.
Unfortunately, in this environment, there was a NEED that our clients were unable to grasp. Oftentimes, during that first meeting, clients would express obstacles they face at home, lifestyle factors that impacted them, and situations that would just bring them to tears on WHY they needed this change.
My desire to help clients on a deeper level ignited the start of ‘Break the Cycle’ – my current 1:1 private coaching program. ‘Break the Cycle’ was built from the idea that for our desires to be fulfilled, we must make deeper changes and focus on creating a new path, no matter what type of journey we are on.
Perfectionism and quick fixes are left at the front door, and we focus on the client as a whole to create a process that not only gets results but completely transforms their outlook on health forever. We combine nutrition, training, and mindset “activities” to take the client from POINT A, TO POINT B, to POINT C etc. and EVERYTHING in between.
100% of the time, clients want “weight loss”, but during this process, they gain so much more and that is what “Break the Cycle” is all about.
Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
Without clients, my business wouldn’t be a business and for that I just want to say thank you to all of my clients, past, present and future.
To show my gratitude, the journey they are on isn’t only about me providing coaching, but about me thanking them for saying “YES” to themselves.
From the first interaction, I strive to be the coach they never thought they needed. Not for the purpose of being hired, but to show them, THERE IS A DIFFERENT WAY. I focus on remembering and jotting down what matters most to them because it is what I use to encourage them when tough times are encountered.
Then, when they say “YES”, my onboarding process has been carefully curated so that they see my face continually, have everything they need and guide them step by step through getting enrolled into the program. This, to me, is the most important part of my process because the easier I make it for them to start, the less they doubt their ability to succeed.
Depending on their contract, I carefully curate gifts to my clients based on what they’ve expressed they love or need for their journey. These gifts are at specific intervals and are a token of my appreciation for, AGAIN, saying YES to themselves.
My main focus is mindset & I send motivational, videos, quotes, or notes that I spilled on a page to show them, that we are all human and will encounter difficulties but if we keep nourishing that mindset, we will build a shield of protection against negative thought patterns that keep us from achieving our greatest potential.
Overall, my clients show so much vulnerability reaching out to me and THAT is the toughest part…. to say, “I NEED HELP”. My goal is to show them that saying, “I NEED HELP”, is not a weakness but a strength and I strive to spark that confidence in them through each and every interaction
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Social Media has been a fun experience for me! Starting off, I was actually nervous to post because I always thought Social Media was too much.
Then, because I loved fitness and wanted a form of accountability, I decided to start a page all about my journey, the fun, the hard, and everything in between. I used the same page to connect with others from communities I had joined to keep each other accountable.
After a couple of years of having this page, I was going through the process of my personal training certification and shared with others my journey with training AND my life. It’s been like a personal diary. Through just sharing and being me, I have had conversations with women all around the world, and relate to each other for what we are striving to do.
Through my vulnerabilities, I have found that many women connect with the same obstacles, etc. Sometimes it does feel a little exposed but I only share what I want to & I keep very intimate personal moments as private as possible to keep my life for myself.
I think overall, consistency and just DOING is the key. There could be so many formulas out there but as long as you are true to yourself, build honest relationships with others, and most importantly connect others with each other, you can build a page many will connect through.
