Alright, Jenny thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Almost all entrepreneurs have had to decide whether to start now or later? There are always pros and cons for waiting and so we’d love to hear what you think about your decision in retrospect. If you could go back in time, would you have started your business sooner, later or at the exact time you started?

My business has provided me with many opportunities to learn and grow, and I wish I had started it sooner

As a consultant, I always dreamed of owning my own business, and I also needed flexibility in my schedule when I started my business. I started my business the year my husband and I moved around the country ten times for his job, so outside of work I was packing the house and traveling by myself to various places.

All of the opportunities that have come my way make me wish I had done this sooner!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

Working with people and helping them is what attracted me to Human Resources. After college, I worked for large corporations, then moved into the legal industry and worked for national and international firms. The reason I started my business was to provide HR services for small businesses, since many small businesses lack the resources to hire a full-time HR professional. I divided my business up into three services: Project HR, Recruiting, and Outsourced HR.

I would like to think I offer a more human and forward-thinking approach to HR, not the old-school approach.

Have you ever had to pivot?

In the beginning, I wanted to offer just HR consulting services, but I quickly realized that many companies needed help recruiting as well. As a result, I quickly expanded my services to include recruiting and worked as a Human Resources Recruiting Manager for several small companies reviewing resumes, building out Applicant Tracking Systems, interviewing candidates, and onboarding them.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?

Referrals and the Chamber of Commerce have been my best sources of clients.
