We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jenny Cretacci a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jenny, appreciate you joining us today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I’ve recently been diving deeper into this question of success because it’s broad. Being successful looks different for each person. I believe to truly be successful in life, one must be aligned with their core values and goals. If you are achieving those goals while staying in alignment with yourself, then that’s success.
The best way to illustrate this view is that we can’t compare apples to apples because we are all unique. For some success is being the first in their family to go to college. While others it’s having a family or dedicating their life to service. In terms of action, one needs to be successful, it takes focus, knowing when to pivot, consistency, patience and not being afraid to fail. No matter what your definition of success is these actions are needed.

Jenny, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
What inspired me to be a Designer/Art Director was the connection between being creative and supporting individuals and companies to visually/easily communicate their offerings to the world. I love the discovery, getting to know the client, and meeting them where they are. Whether it be starting from square one or a rebrand, all is exciting. I love seeing the client light up as they talk about their business.
I provide brand development coaching, branding kits, digital assets, lookbooks, merch, and packaging services.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My creative journey is ever-changing, in order to stay creative I need to be inspired, see purpose, have growth, and be excited. Of course, we all have days or weeks that may not be, but as long as the majority of the time they are, I know I’m grounded in the right opportunity.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Letting go of perfection. Most creatives struggle with the need for “perfection”, and I’m one of them. It’s something I continue to work on throughout my journey. The truth is there is no such thing as perfection and the amount of time you work towards it you can deplete yourself from other things that bring you joy, balance, and inspiration. You can still strive to do a good job and be happy with the outcome, but know when to let go too.
