Alright, Jenny thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard
One thing I do differently than most business individuals is; I bring my little girls with me when I work. I wish it was something more accepted in our culture. Although the beauty of being a business owner is I can do what I want. I understand that I might have clients who choose not to work with me because they don’t like this, but I have found many who are very kind and love having the girls come too. I don’t believe kids need to be entertained every minute of the day, it’s good they can experience and learn what it is to run a business and work hard. I try and give them each individual attention but I want them to see me hustle so that they in turn learn to work hard for their dreams.
Right now my girls are little I have a 3 yr old and a 5 yr old. I try to find ways that they can contribute too. They help me put out fliers for open houses, help me show homes and are learning little things now.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I stumbled into real estate. I was a stay home mom and had just finished my bachelor’s degree when we decided to move to Texas. I had a condo in Utah I sold before I moved. I interviewed multiple agents about listing the home and finally decided I wanted to try and sell it myself. As a for sale by owner, I held an open house and I had several people show up. I had so much fun hearing their stories and showing them around my condo. I loved that I could spend time with people and get to know them. This is when I decided to get my license. I have had different sales jobs in the past and didn’t love them. The difference with real estate is I don’t need to sell to clients, I just help them find what they are looking for. Sometimes agents won’t meet with people until they are preapproved and ready to buy or sell. I do this differently because I understand each person’s situation is so different and I am happy to visit with people even if they are not ready to buy or sell now. I am always happy to give advice on what repairs are going to add value to the home and what things buyers need so I can help them get on the right track now. I don’t want clients just going about it themselves and hoping they are ready when the time comes. I never try to be pushy and make people feel like they need to sell now or buy now. I want them to feel comfortable with me and know that I am their friend and I have their best interest at hand. I always try and understand my client’s worries and concerns and help them individually. I love that real estate helps people get into a better financial situation and build generational wealth.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
With real estate like many other entrepreneurs, it’s all about finding your own clients. I was nervous about moving to another state where I didn’t know anyone and starting a business. I have consistently been able to find clients since I got licensed. I try to be present on social media platforms so everyone can know that I am active in the market. I also share tips and advice to help anyone looking to buy and sell so they know they can use me as a resource. I also do a lot of networking with other business owners so we can help support each other. I love to see others have success in business too.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
I love to learn! I especially love audiobooks because as a business owner and a mom I don’t get a lot of sit-down time to read but I do have a lot of time I am driving with work and I can put on an audiobook and keep learning. I really like the book Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki It is really entertaining but does such a great job teaching the concept of financial freedom. Financial freedom opens doors where I can work when I want, I can go where I want, I can help who I want, I can spend more time with my family when I want, and gives me the power to be truly free. This is my own personal goal. This is also what I want to be able to help my clients and friends achieve too. I believe owning real estate is a powerful tool that can help us achieve this freedom. A few other books that I would recommend are “Atomic Habits”, “The Power of Zero”, “The Game of Networking”, “Retire Before Mom and Dad”, and “We Should All Be Millionaires”.
