Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jenniferlyn Chiemingo. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jenniferlyn, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
When 9/11 happened, I was in a place mentally of thinking ‘if life ended today, would I feel satisfied’ and the answer was NO. I spent the next year preparing, going through yoga teacher training, talking it all through with my husband, etc. Then I quit my TV News Producer job to become a full time yoga teacher & mom.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a full time yoga teacher and international yoga retreat leader. Core to my teaching is learning to love yourself. So the term JOY LOVE surely describes me best. I teach weekly yoga classes in the Bay Area and lead intimate life-changing yoga retreats around the World. I’m also probably one of the most fun-loving, open-hearted humans you’ll ever meet.
Through practicing yoga on the mat and in life, my goal is to provide you with the opportunity to experience genuine joy, love, and connection. My unique teaching style is a creation of my own and an experience all will benefit from. My classes are flowing, grounded, joyful, loving, spiritual, and inspiring.
When you step away from one of my energizing Vinyasa or restorative yoga classes, you will feel more connected to yourself, and the World around you. I lovingly support those new to yoga, while continually challenging my regular students to find greater depths in their practice.
I’m proud of the fact that most students feel like family, as I love celebrating their lightness.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Finding and utilizing my own resilience has shown up often for me as a yoga teacher actually.
I taught a prenatal yoga class early in my career, when I was 7 months pregnant. It was a class series of 8 weeks. At 8 months pregnant, I broke my ankle. But I managed to finish the series on crutches and very pregnant because I knew this group counted on me.
When the pandemic hit and all the studios I taught for closed down, I knew people needed yoga and I needed to work. I had a great web designer who I worked with and I started offering online yoga almost immediately after the world shut down. I didn’t even miss teaching a week. It was a day or two. This helped me work, help others and it was very lucrative in a time others were struggling.
Nearly two years ago, I fell down a mountain while hiking and broke my leg in four places. Since I have a physical job, you’d think I’d be out of work. But I offered classes online (from my couch) and I had loving students who picked me up (since I couldn’t drive) bring me to my classes, set up a chair and the student would demonstrate the postures while I sat and still taught classes. It kept my following strong and kept me being able to work.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
Being open and having a mindset of success and truly investing myself heart & soul in what I do. It’s not just a job, it’s my lifestyle.
