Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jennifer Toegel. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jennifer, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
In my experience, it takes a LOT of hard work, professionalism, responsiveness, and perhaps a little bit of luck to be successful. One must be able to set and meet their own deadlines, answer potential client’s questions, and then of course provide an excellent service that sets them apart from the rest. My aesthetic is bright, bold, and dramatic, with rich colors and natural skin tones. I utilize dramatic lighting and romatic and editorial poses. My work speaks for itself and is unique in the wedding industry.
Jennifer, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a wedding photographer based in Daytona Beach Florida. I was originally a sports photographer right out of college, specializing in equestrian hunter/jumper events. This slowely transitioned to parties and ultimately I landed in weddings. I loved the drama of the couple’s poses, and veil and bouquet. I love that every wedding is so unique. We’ve done a steampunk wedding, gator wedding, weddings on yachts and in castles, a wedding with owls, I even did a naked wedding once. Each couple is unique, and their weddings are all unique, and I love that about my job! I recently had a few images shared by the weather channel, Fox news, and Newsweek of one of the Spacex Rockets going up behind my newlyweds. That was a huge honor to be recognized! We’ve just booked our first wedding in Italy for this fall, and I simply cannot WAIT to document their love story!
We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
Looking back on the 11+ years that Jennifer Juniper Photography has been in business, I’m truly amazed at the progress. When I began, I started renting an office, and remember sitting at my desk playing sodoku waiting for the phone to ring. Things were very slow, and I worried that I would not be able to get the business off the ground. Today it’s a full time job, and we average 55-60 weddings per year, plus a few graduations, portrait sessions, and elopements. I started a sister company to Jennifer Juniper Photography called Juniper Lane Events. There, we offer different photo booth options (we own 3), dancing on a cloud fog machine, coordination, up-lighting, and DJ services. I have a reputation in the area for providing consistent high end dramatic imagery, with an incredible team, and customer service that can’t be beat.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Most of my new clients are from vendor referrals, or personal referrals from other brides. Also we’re pretty high in a google search so that helps as well. Having close relationships with other wedding professionals that share my business priorities is super important. And of course we share a ton of images on our social media so people can like, follow, and share!
