Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jennifer Smith. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jennifer, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Going back to the beginning – how did you come up with the idea in the first place?
In my early college career, I had to take time off to undergo major surgery. My life completely changed at this time, the surgery diagnosed a long-term illness and completely changed my physical capabilities at the time. While recovering from this procedure and adjusting to what would be my new life, someone gifted me a beautiful bouquet of flowers for my recovery. It was my first time ever receiving flowers from someone, and it really lifted me up. I was so shocked at how impactful these flowers were for my recovery. For many days I got to enjoy their floral scent and beauty, they provided an extra level of comfort and joy that I didn’t expect to come from just a single vase of flowers. It was a really defining moment in my life. After falling in love with this bouquet, the joy of flowers continued to grow. I soon realized that this is somewhere that I could use my creativity as an active service to others and not just myself. The idea of becoming a floral designer bloomed shortly after that, I was inspired to bring joy to the world through flowers and that quickly became my mission when starting my floral business.

Jennifer, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a floral designer. I started my trade as a Wedding Florist, and have serviced weddings for the last two/three years, which has been absolutely incredible. I recently rebranded my business to Sunny Day Flowers to better reflect my purpose and drive for arranging flowers.
The mission of Sunny Day Flowers is to bring joy to the world, one bloom at a time. Flowers have a special way of bringing sunshine to the room and we want to bring sunshine to every room in our community! Whether it’s your home or office, flowers have their place and we are here to show you just how to enjoy them in your daily life, too.
We function as an all occasion florist and can service anything from daily deliveries to large scale weddings and events.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Running a business as someone living with chronic illness is a challenge of its own. Learning to find balance between the two has been a really big learning lesson that I am still going through. Although, I wouldn’t trade my struggles for a different life. Every moment, even the hard times, has led me to this beautiful place where I can be in the element of creation and offer a very special service to the world. I think that my struggles bring understanding and depth to my business, especially being in the realm of flowers, where they are gifted for very personal occasions and sometimes even sadness. I feel very honored to be the person to arrange these flowers for such intimate moments in people’s lives. A single arrangement changed my life, so with every arrangement I deliver, I like to take the perspective that maybe it’ll change theirs too. And at the least, seeing the recipient smile when they open the door to beautiful flowers, that’s what inspires me to keep pushing forward- even on my own bad days.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My biggest goal is to bring joy to the world through flowers. Especially in this digital age, I think it’s really easy for us to get caught up in negativity and focus on the bad, but flowers can be that breath of fresh air and sunshine that remind us that everything is going to be OK. When I deliver flowers, my favorite part is seeing the big smile on their face when they open the door. It’s an amazing magic that flowers have, no matter what’s going on in life, they bring a spark of joy back to it. A reminder that the sun will always shine, and flowers will always bloom. I want to bring that ‘Sunny Day’ feeling to everyone I possibly can.
