We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jennifer Schafer. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jennifer below.
Jennifer, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s start with the decision of whether to donate a percentage of proceeds to an organization or cause – we’d love to hear the backstory of how you thought through this.
Thanks for having me! Energy Sciences (ES) donates resources and financial donations to partner organizations. We use the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a filter for decision-making. Through our Give Back Committee, which is entirely made up of ES employees, we currently support 8 of the 17 UN SDGs:
• Zero Hunger
• Quality Education
• Gender Equality
• Reduced Inequalities
• Sustainable Cities and Communities
• Climate Action
• Life Below Water
• Life on Land
Jennifer, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Definitely! I am the Director of Company Relations, but I have worn many hats since I started in March 2017. My background is in advertising and service, and that experience has served me well in the energy efficiency space and at Energy Sciences. Caring about people within our company and our community has become my focus and expertise.
Personally, I came to Energy Sciences (ES) because of the owners, Shelley Sullivan and Frank Schulmeister. Their integrity and passion for the work is inspiring. They founded ES in 2008 with a combined arsenal of technical energy expertise, a huge helping of entrepreneurial spirit and gumption, and a commitment to protecting the environment. The ES vision has remained steadfast since the beginning – for our work to make an impact and contribute to a world where clean, affordable energy and water are available to everyone, and preserving natural resources is common practice for everyday life.
Day-to-day, our team establishes decarbonization programs, locates green incentives, and hunts for energy savings to help commercial and industrial clients identify and eliminate waste. We provide project-based energy consulting, energy efficiency program implementation, Energy Efficiency as a Solution (EEAS), and owner representatives for design-and-build projects.
We are so proud of our team. We’re all on a collective mission to safeguard the planet, one building at a time. It takes a team of highly qualified and mission-driven team members to accomplish our goals. Not only are the ES team members experts in their field, but they make this work a joy to do every day! There is an authentic ethos of genuine care and respect throughout ES, which solidifies our collective resolve to leave the planet better than how we found it.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Our most important strategy isn’t a strategy at all; it’s simply being excellent at what we do. We provide repeat consulting and program services with our established client partners and actively foster those relationships with every partnership we take on. Our reputation for being innovative and reliable has allowed us to work with new clients consistently.
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
ES considers our clients as partners. We build strong personal relationships with them and communicate regularly and authentically to ensure we provide excellence in our services. Additionally, our Marketing team has worked diligently to create a strong social media presence and distinctive branding that is closely tied to our company objectives while also being committed to cultivating genuine connections with our audience.
