My upbringing was in a charming, scenic town nestled in the heart of Vermont. It was the kind of place where everyone knew each other’s names. My childhood was filled with memories of playing in the woods, building snowmen in the winter, and bonfires during the summer nights. But as much as I loved my tight-knit community, I knew that there was a world beyond the borders of my beloved hometown, a world waiting to be explored and conquered.

I felt an insatiable itch for adventure. It was in high school that I started contemplating the idea of leaving Vermont to seek new horizons. The idea of attending a school in Arizona, a state with more students in their high schools than my entire town, both thrilled and scared me. The thought of taking on new challenges and stepping into the unknown ignited a fire within me. I yearned to see what the future had in store, and I believed that taking the risk of leaving home as a teenager would be a catalyst for growth, instilling in me the courage to take on even greater risks as I matured.

Leaving my close-knit community wasn’t an easy decision. There were times when the homesickness felt overwhelming, and the struggles of being away from family and familiar surroundings weighed heavily on me. But with each passing day, I discovered a resilience I hadn’t known existed within me. Those challenges were molding me, making me stronger and more independent. In my industry, I hold a unique position that goes beyond merely offering products or services. How’d you meet your business partner?

During my 7th year working as a stylist, I made the switch to a new salon and that’s where I met my business partner, Candice. We rented stations right beside each other, and our connection was instant. Our shared goals brought us closer and it became a family bond. We then made the choice to move into a suite within that salon, working to create a comfortable space for our clients and to build our brand together. Our personalities complement each other beautifully, combining individual creativity and vibrant energy that radiates to our clients. After a few more years, we felt the need for further growth, prompting us to choose a new salon and location for expanding our clientele and brand. That’s when Meraki Studio came into the picture – the name perfectly represents our approach of pouring heart and soul into what we love, which aligns perfectly with our beliefs.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?

The best strategy I have found to grow my clientele is by keeping things simple and genuine. Being consistent and always giving great service is key. My genuine personality creates a comfortable atmosphere that encourages repeat visits. It’s all about the basics – being reliable and creating a friendly environment. I’m proud that my clients have become loyal friends.
