We recently connected with Jennifer Rogers and have shared our conversation below.
Jennifer , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
I had been doing photography for fun for years, (since I was about 10 years old) but at the age of 19, I started Memories in a Shutter Photography. My husband was stationed at Camp Lejeune North Carolina when he helped to push me to take the leap and open a business as a photographer. When coming up with the name, I wanted it to be something that was different, and not just my first and last name. Therefore, My husband Matthew asked me what I wanted to ensure people understand about my photographs when either they hire me or see someone else who had hired me – and that was that i was capturing a memory that would be looked upon in the years to come. The name itself has become a reminder that photographs are not just a click of a button, but are works of art that document true memories that are forever able to be held close to our hearts.

Jennifer , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hi there!
I am Jennifer Rogers, the owner and main photographer of the Memories in a Shutter Photography team. Our team is comprised of Chelsea Marne (@chelseamarne.photography) as a associate, Matthew Rogers (my husband) as a second shooter, Sarah Harris as an assistant/social media expert, and Alexis Brown as an assistant.
We specialize in Adventure and Elopement Photography, but we document anything from weddings, to family sessions, to baby announcements, to maternity sessions, and so much more!
Here is a little bit about me currently, my husband and I currently live on a few acres in Alcolu, SC with two goats, a pig, almost a hundred chickens, two cats, and my precious two puppies. We love to ride our Harley around and since we only live an hour and a half from the beach, you can catch us there on the bike a couple weekends a year. The mountains are our happy place and bring us all of the joy, you can typically catch us up in the Blue Ridge mountains at least one weekend a month, more if I have sessions up there!
I started playing around with a camera when I was about 10 years old, I quickly became the annoying kid taking photos of everything and forcing my siblings to model for me. Shortly after my husband and I got married, he pushed me to take a leap and open my photography business and things have been crazy ever since! I honestly never planned on getting into weddings as I was worried they would be too stressful, but I ended up having a few friends ask me to do their weddings, and I fell in love with documenting them and haven’t stopped since! Now, weddings and elopements are one of my main jams!
One thing that sets our team apart from others is that we truly are ready to be your next best friend on your special day! We also have a 24hr sneak peek (and sometimes even during a reception!) turn-around, and give all the images we can! We understand it can be difficult to only choose 5 or so photos out of a gallery, so we include a FULL digital gallery of all of the best photographs. We also have an extensive client closet, to include multiple Reclamation Dress Company dresses! This helps our clients not have to stress so much about finding “the perfect outfit”, without having every single session in the exact same dress.
One of the things I am most proud of, is how adaptable our team is. From vows on sandy beaches, to in flowing waterfalls, to mountain hikes, to venue days. to chasing kids in a field, we adapt and thrive with it all and create works of art in the process.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Honestly the best source of new clients for me is word of mouth! That could be our social media getting tagged in posts, previous clients recommending us in the comments of other posts, as well as in person discussions and mentions! We strive to give our clients photographs that speak for themselves in a positive way as a reflection of us on our team. I had one client tag me in her engagement photographs and her wedding, and as a direct result from seeing the social media tag, I booked two maternity session, two weddings, three engagement sessions, two boudoir sessions, and a pregnancy announcement! All from one client showcasing the best form of recommending my business on social media, tagging us in every post she made of the wonderful photographs we captured.

We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
Aside from my husband (who is literally my biggest fan, supporter, and partner), my other business partner is my associate Chelsea Marne. I met Chelsea in the beginning of 2021 when I photographed an in home newborn lifestyle session when her son was born. I remember leaving her house, telling my husband just how much I thought we would all get along and how much I wanted her to be my friend. I ended up being shy and didn’t reach out due to her just having her second child, but little did I know, we were about to become best friends! (I say I definitely manifested our friendship and business relationship by the way!) Fast forward to now, and we are sounding boards for the other, creative partners, and so much more. Wither she is paired up for a wedding with myself or my husband, we all make a dream team when it comes to our art!
