Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jennifer Pickering. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jennifer, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
I am very particular about the brands I work with. I am in the sustainable fashion and healthy living space so I only work with brands that fit my niche. I’ve been lucky enough to work with some of my favourite brands. Twice, I got to work with my favourite supplement brand and I’ve also worked with one of my favourite sustainable clothing brands before. And last year, the magazine I style for interviewed me for their July issue where I talked about clean beauty and sustainable fashion. I just want to educate people on the importance of both of these subjects.
Jennifer, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a sustainable fashion and healthy living content creator and wardrobe stylist. I have a BA in Fashion Merchandising from Wayne State University. After I graduated, I struggled to find a job in my field so while I was working a desk job, I started my fashion blog. Once I found my niche in sustainable fashion, clean beauty, healthy living, etc, I haven’t looked back. By chance, I was offered to help assist the stylist for Hour Media. I’ve been freelancing for them for 10 years. After years of assisting, I started styling photo shoots by myself. I even got into wardrobe for commercials as well.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
There have been many times when I almost gave up and changed careers! Especially when work was slow. But I love what I do and I didn’t want to stop doing it and it paid off.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I want to bring awareness to how bad the fast fashion industry is. I want to educate people on making smarter decisions when it comes to purchasing clothing.
