We were lucky to catch up with Jennifer Peltz recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jennifer, thanks for joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
My mission is to inspire others to be the best of themselves. Let’s face it, it is hard out there and we are our worst critics. I love talking and getting to know my customers and then pulling out the perfect piece of jewelry. Connecting with others, helping them to see how awesome they are and encouraging them to take on the world.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I started making earring for fun. I found little kits on line and would make them for friends for the different holidays. When the world shut down in 2020 I realized I had a lot of jewelry. My friend gave me the idea to put together a booth at a local market. I was scared and excited and completely out of my comfort zone. That first market was amazing. I started out with earrings but branched out to all kinds of jewelry (necklaces, bracelets, rings, stamp art). I love helping someone pick out the perfect gift, or figure out what to stamp on a bracelet. I take the time to get to know my clients, and love when they ask about a certain kind of earring. It could be a quote, a hobby, maybe a color. Maybe something as simple as a set of Mickey Mouse earrings. I thing I am most proud of is the community I have built along the way. The clients that visit me every week, the vendors that support me, the people that I only see once, but have amazing conversations. It’s about the people. I am very fortunate to be able to do something I enjoy.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
In November of 2022 I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Through the past few month I have gone through Chemo, radiation and a double mastectomy. Through it all and with the help of my friends and family, I was able to keep attending my market. The love I received from my clients kept me going and helped me through this difficult time. I am happy to say that I am Cancer free.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn control. I have never thought of myself as a creative person. When I started making earrings they were from kits. They told you exactly what to do. Then I started making a number of the same earring. They were simple and similar. Maybe just a different color or a different bead. It wasn’t until I gave myself permission to fail that I actually started to realize I was a creative person. I would try new combinations. Some worked and others didn’t. But it was the ability to let go that allowed me to create.
