Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jennifer Neubauer. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Jennifer thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
Tech layoffs.. Went not even an hour into my workday. I found out that I got laid off from my job. Jobless and leaving a life that I had built so lovingly for 10+ years.. I was lost. I took a hard pause and realized the universe was calling for a big change. I needed to step out of my comfort and take a risk. I needed to lean into the unknown and trust that I had everything I needed to be successful. After searching around for a space to open a small cafe and having no luck. Three weeks before Memorial Day I got a call from my now landlord that a space became available I needed to sign the lease within 24 hours. Not knowing what I was doing I signed the lease and jumped in! On a shoe string budget Local Provisions was born 3 short weeks later. A small cafe nestled in the heart of Westhampton Beach, NY. The outpouring of support and love has been tremendous. I’ve created the brick and mortar of my garden vlog- a place where people can eat fresh local juices, smoothies and other treats.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Passionate about growing my own food and cooking it feels as if it’s in my bones to be doing what I’m doing now. For me, creating a space to provide nourishment as a form of wellness gives me great joy. What sets me apart from others I believe is my deep connection with the process. Planting the seed, fostering the growth of the plant into the vegetable, harvesting the vegetable to then utilize it in my store. An elevated garden to table experience but accessible for all. I want to be inclusive of everyone and show them that they can be more connected to their food and their wellness. I’m also most proud of being a single mother female owned business. Acting as a role model to my children showing them that if they work hard anything is possible.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
That i needed to know it all, be 100% prepared before i began my business. The truth is- sometimes you just need to jump in and figure it out along the way. Trial by fire is one of the best ways to learn. I believe we can at times talk ourselves out of doing that thing we love because we have this idea that we need to be in a certain place and the truth is we’re all just figuring it out along the way.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Losing my job and separating from my life I was left in a space of not knowing what was next. Before I started this business I had to let go of everything that was comfortable and easy. I had to step into the unknown. What I knew was something had to change and that something was listening to my intuition and to those things that make me feel most fulfilled and happy. Sometimes in all the pain and uncertainty greatness is born. Grateful for the push to get me to this place where I feel fulfilled and happy doing what I love.
