We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jennifer Nethery a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Jennifer thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
I am continually striving to build a legacy of commitment to my community. My first career was a high school science teacher, which is where my legacy started. Today, my commitment to our community shines from my work as the lone Insurance Agent in Severance, serving as the Severance Chamber of Commerce President, the Vice President of Stepping Stones of Windsor, and a volunteer at Big Bones Canine Rescue. When I am gone, I would like people to say, “that Jennifer, she sure was involved in a lot and really made a difference in our community.”
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
As a previous high school science teacher, I loved teaching, but it wasn’t the right career as I started to build my family. This was a difficult decision, but it led me to a career in sales, first with pharmaceuticals, then veterinary diagnostic analyzers and finally to insurance advising. After working for a Farmers Insurance Agency as a protege for 3 years, I took the opportunity to take over the business in November of 2021. I chose Farmers Insurance because it allows me to utilize brand recognition, incredible claims payout history and I can act as a broker to expand my reach in our community, even with those hard-to-place policies. Insurance isn’t just about selling, and it isn’t what I built my Agency on. With the skills I have from teaching, I am dedicated to educating anyone who will listen about insurance, how it works, what coverages would be a perfect fit to protect them, and how to read their policies. My agency reflects who I am – a true believer in our community and helping others! The office mantra is “I am here to help, whether you are my client or not.” I want people to know that customer service comes first at my agency.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The way I run my agency, with customer service being our highest priority, our clients are our biggest source of reaching others who need our type of help. With our hands-on approach, dedication to transparency, focus on education and our willing to help attitude – I believe we show clients how nice it is to have a true advocate willing to roll their sleeves up and be there when they need us most.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I have built my reputation on caring for my clients like they are family. I genuinely want to look at the season of life they are in, where there is a risk, and what they need to protect themselves while keeping in mind what they can afford. I am not just an insurance agent; I am your friendly local advisor that is here to be an advocate and help you through the maze of insurance, so you don’t lose sleep at night.
