We were lucky to catch up with Jennifer Mims recently and have shared our conversation below.

Jennifer, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.

At the age of 9 years old, I KNEW that I wanted to do hair. I am my best self, when providing quality customer service. It makes me happy, and I have fun. 2018 is when I went independent, stepped out on faith, and found salon space.

Jennifer, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

I am Jennifer Mims, also know as J.Marie, a natural stylist who takes pride in professional/quality service. I am the owner and founder of Simply Beauty NSB Salon, founded in April 2018. I thank God everyday for the opportunity to do what I love, everyday. I am located in Arlington, Texas

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?

Word of mouth!! One of my little slogans is “follow me! I’ll follow back!” Making sure any card, flyer, or any promotional item had all of my social media communications. It’s ok to ask your clients to tag you in a post or story. I used to be so nervous to do this. And the main thing…POST, POST, POST!! Even if you only get a few likes starting out, keep posting!! You never know who’s watching, and we have to be “walking billboards” and keep putting ourselves out there.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?

Busy does not always equal effective. Sometimes, it’s ok to slow down. Gather yourself. It’s YOUR business. Don’t allow anyone or anything dictate your pace
