We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jennifer Medina. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jennifer below.
Alright, Jennifer thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I’ve loved crafting for as long as I can remember. I would always just do it for fun and make things for myself and my kids. When my daughter was 3 years old, she wanted a Totoro themed birthday party, and finding a piñata with that theme was impossible. I decided to make one myself. I copied one off Pinterest and it turned out better than the one I copied. I decided I had a knack for it and started making them for friends. After I made a few I decided I might as well make a business out of it and start selling them. I created my business called Hakuna Piñata and have been making them ever since.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I create custom piñatas in the Houston area. All piñatas are personalized and made to order. I enjoy creating something special for each client and helping make their celebration special.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect is seeing the finished product. It’s satisfying to be able to create something out of nothing. Being able to take an idea, some cardboard, tape, and paper, and turn it into a finished design makes me feel accomplished. Turning a hobby into a business is very rewarding.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
The goal driving my creative journey is being able to create a business doing something I love. I love crafting, but you can only have so many hand made things in your house before it’s too many. So to be able to sell my creations allows me to continue to create with a purpose.
