We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jennifer Marlin a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jennifer, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s the kindest thing anyone has ever done for you?
I have a friend Pete who’s stayed in touch since I met him around 2010-2011. We aren’t super close, but we text every few months.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’ve been drawn to fashion illustration, since I was a little girl. I drew sketches in the margins of my notebooks all through school. Around 2008-2009 it became clearer to me that I wanted to be a Fashion Illustrator, so I went to college at MCAD and received an BFA in Illustration. I worked as a Designer for a few years and in 2019, decided to pursue my dream of being a full-time Freelance Fashion Illustrator and that’s what I’m doing now. Most of my work now consists of live fashion sketching at weddings, Gala’s, stores, corporate and fashion events and occasionally some private small events like birthday parties :) I’m traveling more to draw at events, which I enjoy.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Knowing that no matter how it’s going, I’m pursuing something I love.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I want to have a Fashion Illustration brand with thousands of prints and drawings that inspire people and make them happy.
