We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jennifer Lyn a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jennifer, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
I started my podcast late into the pandemic. I wasn’t even sure if I wanted to do a podcast. I had such great conversations with my friends who loved hearing my theatre stories, especially when it involved their favorite actors. I would talk to my actor friends via zoom during the pandemic and I thought well a way I can highlight my actor friends and bring my friends stories is by doing a podcast. At This Performance Podcast was born and I’m so happy I can bring friends and new friends something they love listening to.
Jennifer, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I have been a theater usher for more than 10 years. I started out by just going to enjoy shows and promoting various performers. When I discovered that I could just apply to be an usher, I jumped at that chance. Theatre has always been a passion of mine and I was thrilled when I got the chance to actually work in the industry.
I absolutely love understudies, seeing that slip of paper in my playbill is thrilling and seeing someone make their Broadway debut or debut in a certain role is something amazing to witness. As an ode to the understudies I love so much, I wanted to name the podcast At This Performance since those are the words you will see at the top of the understudy slip.
I love bringing people who love theatre into my world and hopefully learn things they may have not known before. My podcast brings people into that world. The feel of each episode is like listening to a conversation between friends. I love to find unique questions to ask my guests to provide a new perspective to listeners.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Making people happy by letting them share their stories/projects as well as the listeners who enjoy hearing them.
