Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jennifer Loehding. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jennifer, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
What does it take to be successful? Well, it’s pretty much a personal thing, and it definitely changes depending on where we are in life. Looking back at my thirties, success was all about surviving the day without my kids turning the house into a war zone and sneaking in some precious ‘me time’. Fast forward to different chapters of my business life, where success was all about hitting those big, shiny goals and getting some recognition.
But, you know, things change. Nowadays, success is about enjoying the things I love doing, keeping myself healthy without cutting corners, and making a difference in other people’s lives. It’s funny how our view of success evolves over time, but I guess it’s all about what makes us happy and fulfilled at the end of the day.
So, what does it take to be successful? I believe it’s all about aligning your goals with your values. Once you’ve sorted that, you’re on track and unlikely to stray. It’s like setting up your own personal compass; as long as you stay true to what matters to you, you’ll find your version of success, no matter where you are. It’s a game-changer, really – keeping you focused on what’s genuinely important and helping you to steer clear of the noise that can throw you off course.
Jennifer, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I like to think of myself as someone who builds success from the ground up. My thing? Helping folks carve out a life they’re totally in love with by stacking up some solid, sustainable strategies. It’s all about unlocking what they’re really capable of, putting a turbo boost on their goals, and getting that sweet spot between work and chill time just right. Basically, laying down the groundwork for success. So, how did I land in this gig? Well, I spent a good 22 years in the Mary Kay world, picking up all sorts of awesome skills. Then, life threw me a health curveball that made me take a hard look at what’s truly important. I decided to line up my work with those big-deal values. Now, I get to mix my business savvy and my survival stories to help others shape the stellar life they’re meant to have.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I’m pretty sure I’ve had to let go of many lessons over the years, but a major one I’ve had to really dive deep into is the idea that we can’t keep our personal and work lives separate. It just doesn’t work out because eventually, everything catches up with you. I remember a guest on my podcast, Behind the Dreamers, sharing how in the military, it was clear that a leader’s home life directly influenced how they interacted with their squad – for better or for worse. So, the notion of keeping them separate doesn’t really hold up. When I started dealing with a health issue in 2012, it hit me that healing wasn’t just about getting my body back on track; it was about my mental health too. I had to shift my thinking from seeing myself as a victim to being the architect of my life. To truly thrive in any part of my life, I realized I needed to be at peace with myself first.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
I’ve been incredibly fortunate to have a wealth of resources that have played a pivotal role in my entrepreneurial journey. My time with Mary Kay stands out as a particularly transformative experience, opening my eyes to the world of personal development in ways I could never have imagined. As someone who is constantly on the lookout for new knowledge, I’m always diving into the latest ideas and insights. Yet, if I had to pinpoint one key influencer who I keep circling back to, it would undoubtedly be John Maxwell. He strikes the perfect balance between practical wisdom and hopeful optimism, making him my go-to guru.
