We recently connected with Jennifer Loehding and have shared our conversation below.
Jennifer, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
How did I come up with the idea for my business?
Well, my official business name is Life by Design LLC. Under that name, I do business as a work/life strategist, a certified DreamBuilder Coach, an author, a creator, and a host of two podcasts, one of which is relaunching here soon. Most people who know me think all I do is my podcasts because I enjoy them a lot, and that’s all they see. However, all of my work centers around one core message. That message is that we can be, do, or have anything we want if we are willing to make different decisions and clean up our life processes.
I spent 20+ years in network marketing, learning how to book, sell, coach, and recruit. The business acumen I picked up over those years certainly is instrumental in the work I do today. One of the beautiful things about network marketing is there is always a supply of mentors, and I was incredibly fortunate that there were people there to guide me when I didn’t quite believe I could do great things. Additionally, mentors are great for helping you clean up life processes. They can help you identify blind spots.
So here I am, cruising in my world, thinking I will stick with this network marketing thing for life, and my world suddenly changes.
Often we are presented with opportunities disguised by hard lessons. That scenario is precisely what happened to me in January of 2012 when I was diagnosed with a rare nerve condition affecting the nerves in my face’s left side. I spent four years in survival mode before taking back my health and working towards a positive recovery. It wasn’t long after I changed my daily habits and realized there was so much more to being healthy than just our physical health.
So I went to work to heal not only my body but also my spirit, my mind, and my whole being, and in the midst of this, I came to understand that to live a Life by Design, we have to clean up the processes in our lives. It’s not enough to eat right and think we will accomplish a healthy lifestyle. We also must consider many things, for example, who we engage with daily. We must be accountable for what kind of content we consume. Is it the news or positive material? Are we getting enough sleep, and how do we create more flow? How are we in our relationships? Are they thriving, or are they falling apart? Numerous pieces fit in this puzzle of health. Some may call it wealth. Regardless, I gained this realization and that helped me create more success.
So in the aftermath of the beginning of my self-discovery, I decided that I had somehow begun to create my own Life by Design. (I say “beginning of my self-discovery” because it’s not over. We should be on a growth journey indefinitely while we consume space on earth.) I architected my life to create success, reduce chaos, and sustain harmony. This discovery led to the birth of a business.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
One of the perks that I believe sets me apart from many coaches is that I do a hybrid of coaching. I bring to the table years of building teams, working with customers, and coaching, but due to my self-discovery journey, I am also certified in life coaching. I now work primarily with female entrepreneurs to help them create peace in their lives while achieving those big audacious goals they want to become their reality. Entrepreneurs do well when they understand that how you show up in an area of your life is most likely how you show up in all the areas of your life. Hence why we must clean up the life processes. It’s all about creating a Life by Design. You get to choose how you want to live on this planet. It can be a prosperous life, or it can be a draining one. My business is the vehicle to spread my message that when we clean up the baggage that keeps us stuck and work on our processes daily, we can live the life we want. That is a Life by Design. My podcasts simply reinforce this message.

Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
When managing a team, I think one of the best gifts a leader can give is to set some good fractal starting conditions. It is challenging to implement something new once you have numerous people to maintain. It can definitely be done with proper care, but if you set great expectations initially, you have less of a mess to clean. I suggest getting really clear on core values and ensuring your team understands them and how they look through action. People only ever do what is expected of them. So the clearer the message, the better the understanding. If you are joining a new team, you may need to be firm on those values. Expect resistance from people, but also understand that by continuing to work on your processes (meaning your personal development) outside your job or business will undoubtedly help you in whatever role you play in your vocation. Morale is created by having clear expectations and allowing your team to shine without micromanaging.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
I have several authors that I really love, but John Maxwell is one of my absolute favorite authors. I was introduced to his work early in my network marketing days and have read several pieces of his work. All of them have been instrumental in guiding me on topics such as leadership. One of his sayings that I love is, “Everything rises and falls on leadership.” I often discuss his work and encourage my clients to for reach his books.
