We were lucky to catch up with Jennifer Langston recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Jennifer thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
My parents are heaven sent! They truly are the definition of supportive. Growing up my parents encouraged me to take chances. They made me and still make me feel like I can fly. That anything is possible. They are my biggest supporters and motivators. When I decided to write my first book last October entitled Antsy Agatha. I told them that I had the idea to write a book. They immediately said “Do it!” I of course was apprehensive due to the “What Ifs”. They helped to remind me that the story I had was not by chance but meant to help someone. By continuing on focusing on what could go wrong I’m discounting what could go right by taking that chance. So I wrote my book!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
I received a Master of Science degree in Applied Psychology from University of Baltimore, and a certificate in Professional Counseling Studies from University of Baltimore. She is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and Supervisor in Maryland where she works full time as a Clinical Coordinator at an outpatient facility providing therapeutic services to clients with co-occurring disorders. She also works as a part time mental health therapist at the Renaissance Christian Counseling Center where she provides therapy to adolescents, and adults.
She is the owner of Enlightening Vital Elements, LLC which is a mental health private practice that assists individuals with gaining insight into critical problem areas with individual therapy and consulting services. She believes that each individuals experience is unique and warrants further consideration to identify effective solutions needed to enhance their daily living.
Ms. Langston is the author of Antsy Agatha which is a children’s book about a young girl with Attention Deficit Hyper Activity Disorder and how therapy helps her cope. Antsy Agatha is available everywhere online that books are sold such as walmart.com, target.com, amazon.com, and barnesandnoble.com
Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
The most helpful thing to succeed in this field is to be genuine and empathetic. I work with a diverse group of clientele and one thing that they have in common is the desire to be heard. I am blessed to be able to provide them with that. Also, being genuine, people need to know that they are receiving assistance from a human with personality and not some robot. I know that I am doing my job when client’s feel comfortable enough to increase sharing.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I am still building my reputation. One thing that is helping me with this is networking, and offering different types of services. Writing a book is also a great marketing tool.
