We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jennifer Kassir. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jennifer below.
Jennifer , appreciate you joining us today. Parents play a huge role in our development as youngsters and sometimes that impact follows us into adulthood and into our lives and careers. Looking back, what’s something you think you parents did right?
My parents did many things right. I’d say the biggest thing I learned from them is to never give up and work for what you truly want. They also taught me to always be kind to people which had helped me go so far in my career. I’ve gotten many opportunities simply because of this. Another thing is to keep my reputation clean as much as possible and not to get peer pressured or influenced by people so easily. I’ve been able to have a smooth transition into adulthood without too much trauma because I always made sure to hang around the right crowds. Now of course no one is perfect and I have been around people who weren’t right for me but I learned a lot and my parents always called out who’s right for me and who isn’t and I’ve always listened to them. Just taking my parents’ advice helped me a lot in my life!

Jennifer , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m an American Lebanese 24 year old content creator from Los Angeles. I graduated from CSUN with a bachelors degree in Communication Studies. My whole life I knew I wanted to be in the entertainment industry. I always used to want to get into acting and that was my dream for a long time and also to become a famous YouTuber. I’ve been making content since I was a little girl honestly. Through years of trials and tribulations, I now have accumulated 6M+ followers across platforms and several accounts. My journey with online fame started in 2019. I decided to finally commit to YouTube and I got into reaction videos randomly. People loved my reactions and told me to react to Indian songs and movie trailers so I started doing that and blew up in the Indian region. I had never had a fanbase before so that was the very beginning. In my psychology class in college, for our finals, my teacher told us we had to have a goal that was easily measurable and I chose YouTube growth. I wanted to surpass 1K subs. I ended up surpassing it by a lot and that year gained 100K subs. It wasn’t an easy journey though. 2020 came around and Covid hit. I was still in school and was at a bad point in my life mentally and was about to drop out of school but I chose not to. I decided I want to be a tiktok star. It was at its peak still and I wrote down I want to hit 1M followers in a year by the end of 2020. I ended up surpassing 1M by December and then hit 3M the following year. This was on my @msbeanieofficial account. I have 3 popular different tiktok accounts. I play different personas. My character Ms. Beanie became famous among children with USA being my top demographic. My other account @arabjenn also blew up and right now I’m almost at the peak of fame in the Middle East. My mom and I make content in Arabic for that region and we are very well known there now which is awesome and I never expected that to happen. I go viral on every video pretty much. My third account @jenniferkassir is the least active and doesn’t have much of a niche. That was my first ever account that I started. When I first started I just wanted to do anything to go viral so I made random content however it wasn’t sustainable and I’m still figuring out what content I want to be known for on there. In early 2020 I impersonated a celebrity rapper 6ix9ine and that blew me up on that account and I got invited to film at the Hype House with popular tiktokers. It was a crazy time. I’ll never forget my rise and I’ll always cherish it no matter how challenging it was. I also got into music and released songs and also relaunched my skincare line LA BODIES during this time. I’ve been multi tasking many things at the same time. Aside from content I am assisting with sales and marketing at my family company started by my father Jay Kassir. It’s called Samson Pharmaceuticals. I hope to take it over one day and really expand it further. Right now my main focus is our skincare brand. We sell bath and body products, face and body treatments, anti aging products, and sun care. We manufacture them in our Los Angeles factory. We put our hearts and souls into every product and make sure to use the highest quality ingredients. Our products are cruelty free and don’t contain harsh chemicals. I have very sensitive skin and I use our products daily especially the Vitamin C Lotion (my fav) and 24K Gold Antioxidant Face cream. These two products have simplified my makeup and skin routines. Speaking of products, I also have my merch shop Ms. Beanie Shop and I sell cool t shirts and other merchandise along with a candy phone which I became popular for. It’s the perfect shop for kids who love food. Everything I create or sell is to make people happy. I’m on a mission to empower individuals and to make them feel good. That’s my purpose here!

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I have many stories like this. In my life, I’ve made many pivots with business and relationships, even mental pivots due to revelations I’ve had. I guess I’ll share two. In 2019 when I had my YouTube reaction channel after almost 2 years of doing it, I honestly got very drained. I really wanted to stop but it was so hard because I didn’t want to disappoint my fans. I did end up disappointing many though but I remember being stuck because I wanted to fully commit to tiktok at the time. It wasn’t easy balancing both. Also I had many tech issues and at one point majority of my videos on my channel were accidentally deleted. I also used to deal with copyright claims and a channel strike and I wasn’t making any money from this. I did it for fun but many people assumed I was using people’s videos to profit when in reality I made almost no money truthfully. It started to not become worth it. I made the decision one day to tell everyone I’m quitting and leaving YouTube. It was a very hard decision but it was the best one I made honestly. And now I have my Ms. Beanie YouTube channel I created after my reaction channel with almost 900K subs from YouTube shorts. YouTube changed my life this year for the better and now I’m going back to it full time. My reaction channel is gone though. So this was kind of a business pivot. I’ve also made pivots with friendships. This happened like 4 times actually. I met the same person in different bodies many times until I learned my lesson once and for all. Cutting them out was a pivot in itself. It was the most heart wrenching thing but changed my life for the better. Anytime I cut out someone toxic I’d succeed more and feel more peace.

How did you build your audience on social media?
It was a lot of work honestly but mainly consistency. I would post in the beginning 3-7 videos a day literally. My biggest advice is quantity over quality in the beginning is key. Quality is a perspective and you’re going to be self critical no matter what. Just post what comes to mind and keep doing it.
