Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jennifer Joseph and Janet Jacob . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jennifer Joseph and Janet Jacob , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
House of Hope Counseling Center was created by Janet Jacob and Jennifer Joseph out of a true need we saw within our community. Within the South Asian Community there is a lack of mental health awareness as well as a strong cultural stigma around utilizing mental health services. Many preconceived notions create stigma around south Asians utilizing mental health services which include hyper spirituality, family opinions, fear of shame, fear of perception etc. We created House of Hope Counseling Center to bridge that gap and to make our mental health services accessible to the community. We believe in the importance of culturally competent and culturally humble therapists who can relate to cultural specific issues that south asians encounter.
Jennifer Joseph and Janet Jacob , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Janet and Jennifer at House of Hope Counseling Center are trauma informed, culturally competent therapists. We are most proud of the fact that our services are available to a typically underserved community. We believe therapy should be accessible and cost should never get in the way of someone receiving mental health care. We truly work with our clients to offer the best and affordable care we can.
We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
Funny enough Jennifer and Janet went to undergrad together, and knew each other for the past 10 years. In 2021 they reconnected on a double date with their husbands and realized they both had shared dreams and goals on how to serve their communities. One year later they dreamed and prayed together about launching House of Hope Counseling Center, and officially opened for business on January 2023.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Janet and Jennifer both pursued a career in helping others. They were surrounded by people who mocked them and doubted them. Being a part of a south asian community that values “model careers” such as engineering, being a physician, etc, many people doubted how successful Janet and Jennifer could be. Despite the naysayers they kept going and are now proud business owners.
